To me repainting is the ultimate sin. It shows the motorcycle was either wrecked or neglected terribly over the years.
How do you feel about custom painted helmets?

Yea, but Hoebster, you gotta be losing sleep over how much someone is going to pay you someday for your Yellow bike.
I bet every time you get on it you are haunted at its escalated depreciation.

Just kidding, of course. :) (razzing Ron. Although I enjoy his take on things)

I gotta tel ya, the whole resale value equation rarely has ever crossed my mind in all my decades of consumerism.
Probably has cost me somewhere. Never kept a spreadsheet on it.

Besides, I rarely sell anything. Keep it, or give it to somebody who really needs\wants it.
Goes for cars-trucks-motorcycles too.

Anyways, I've always really liked your Tenere. Nice job.
Snake, the paint is the least of my worries if counting the pennies on resale is needed. It's the thousands in others above the bike price which are concerning, ha. Gonna keep this one for well, probably forever. I do need to find me a vintage bike though.

I am only 15 miles away. I want and need and also have the means to haul. Just a hop...skip and a jump away. :)

EricV: "I didn't know what color it would be until they called me to come pick it up." I'm with you and wouldn't have looked at the sonogram if I were to have ordered.

RonH: "I'll just say seeing the pictures of the repainted Teneres, my feelings have not changed about motorcycle repaints. Once in a while I even have a dream of wrecking one of my motorcycles and filling it with bondo ect, and repainting and I'm just sick, then I wake up and thankfully it was just a nightmare. To do this to a motorcycle that is not even wrecked though is even more of a nightmare." You Sir, are a cut up!

Karson: "What are folks thoughts on doing a "wrap", rather than paint?" I fail to see where singing to our bikes enters into the dialog here. Truthfully, I'm too unfamiliar with them to respond but it sounds faster and less expensive.

HoebSTer: "Gonna keep this one for well, probably forever." Ditto. Should probably do one of those wraps in wood grain so it'll look good in perpetuity next to my casket.

A wrap might cost out. Less surface area, but more complex shapes, which can be a challenge to apply to. Find some local shops that wrap cars in your area and take the bike over to show them and get a quote. Then tell us! ;)

Dusted off my google-fu and R1 folks were getting it done for anywhere from $650-$1000 bucks. ???

Damn! You'd think a lot of paint and prep would have to be done for that...

The red bike on the previous page is my bro in laws. He took all the parts off and took to the painter. 500 was what he paid and it is a professional paint and body man. Chevy victory red looks better than the picture he came over right as the sun was setting.

Then tell us! ;)" Like to help you out on that but I won't be going that route as I find paints' reflectance, simplicity and range far too appealing. That's not to say there's not great wrap work out there. Seen many in a KLR forum that were really nice. Camo never looked so good.

AVGeek: "You could always go this route: http://www.hydro-dip.com" Yeah that's a nifty process alright. Kinda makes my monochromatic ambition appear exceedingly mundane now doesn't it.

Karson: "Damn! You'd think a lot of paint and prep would have to be done for that..." You're right, I would think that.

True Grip: "The red bike on the previous page is my bro in laws." Sorry, I failed to comment on his paint job. It looks very sharp and just a tad urgent. The tank pad breaks the intensity perfectly. Once painted, I'll apply the OEM decals. On that, I'm hard pressed to think of which color decal would look best on his. Comparing the Red and Tan bikes it appears that between the shadows and the soft lighting, both shots were taken in the golden hour. Things being equal, my thought is that the red could use something to break the splash up front while the tan is subdued enough to leave be. Then again, that could just be the decorator in me that my wife says comes out whenever I prepare to paint. Oh the shame.

That's a fine suggestion to be sure, but I'd have to change a molecule somewherer'tother as putting H on the Y is just wrong. ::003::

I really like what Hoebster's done with the yellow. Somewhere on the web is a single page jpg with repaint ideas for the Super Tenere and the yellow includes the engine side covers. The bumble bee stripes taper along those and the gas tank, which looks REALLY sharp.

Or you could go with a nice shade of fuchsia pink LOL:

I've thought about doing it in the 2014 FJR red, which in person seems to be a touch of metallic crimson red:

RonH is right, though. A repaint says "been damaged and painted for a reason" to me and lowers the value.

Thanks Checkswrecks. Hoebster's ride sure is nice. Not planning on any parades so pink's definitely out. Of course you're right about resale but I'm doing this for me and that's just part of the price.

Would this be the Bee you mentioned?

If so, I agree... It does look really sharp. It may just be photoshopped though. Thanks for mentioning that one. After your post I changed my query and found it.

Don't think you could go wrong with the FJR color. Difficult to tell from the lighting, but not so far off from the Honda mentioned earlier.

Like the Yellow!! What kind of tyres are on that Yellow bike? They look good. Im sure I haven't seen tyres like that in UK. Seems like here we only get Metzeler Dunlop Bridgestone or Continental (Ive got Contis on now coz they were cheap but I wont!! buy them again

Just found this one. Small pic but you get the idea. I like it, but just a bit darker would be my preference.

You found the yellow bee scheme I mentioned and like. Interesting to see it in orange, but to me the yellow is Yamaha and orange will always be KTM. What I really like is that these integrate the engine side covers so they don't have a big black interruption in the flow of the looks.

Yes, the FJR red is very similar to the metallic red on the Honda VFR and CrossTourer.

Re: S10 Repaints/ re-wraps

Not bad Trav, but will that be a contender for the 'worst stuck' award?

Well, here is an attempt at trying to bring 'balance to the force' from a pannier standpoint, this after being accused of going off the Star Wars end of things. Ok, so break out the lightsaber, master-blaster and bring on the smackdown I says.
Having a bit of a quandary on getting the top block done since the name is so well plastered and stamped into the metal. Difficult to read, the dark side is.
