Sorry about your injuries and your ride. You have been through one of my biggest anxieties about getting back into motorcycling (that and "texters"). Glad you made it out without anything more serious. Been hearing about some deer whistles that actually might work. Anyone have any opinion on the various types? Will have to dig up the last one that I read about.
Mend well, ST colleague!
stutrump, I am glad you came out of this without without more serious injuries. Best wishes to you in your recovery. Those wood rats are pretty animals, but a clear and present danger to motorcyclists. I came very close to colliding with one a few years back, but missed it by a whisker, and that was at 10:30 AM in northern Michigan!
Salmon Sam, after that close encounter, I started using deer whistles. I am not sure if they actually work, but I figured they couldn't hurt. Then I purchased a "Hornet" which is an electronic deer whistle. The theory behind it is that it projects sound ahead of the bike and can be better heard by the animals than the air-activated whistles. Again, there is no way to prove one way or another that they work, but FWIW I haven't had a close call since I started using the Hornet.

Sounds like you were very fortunate to have the police on site so quickly. Glad to hear your injuries are temporary. Deer are very bad in this area, too. They are the reason I make it a rule not to ride after dark. Just too risky for me.

Heal quickly.

That "Hornet" electronic deer whistle is the one that I have heard the most positive reviews on. Will have to see if there are any good studies. The game is to reduce the risk. Doesn't have to be "bullet proof", but will it alert some deer some of the time and is that significant.

Maybe this should be in a different thread, but Stutrump's accident has brought it to the forefront again.
Just found this website and a summary on the latest on deer whistles, including the electronic ones like Hornet. Bottom line seems to be, still: save your money until we get more information.

I like it. Does it come in black? Is this an ALTrider or Touratech product?
Humor always helps in the healing (unless the laughing makes the ribs hurt).

bloody hell Stutrump! Thought we'd not heard from you for a bit - really sorry to hear about it but glad you're ok. Where were you when Bambi appeared? Amazing how much wildlife there is in / close to London
Wish you well - let me know if I can be of help as a fellow S10 Londoner, seriously.

Thanks again everyone. Lovely pic Ramseybella!...and yes, the laughing did make my ribs hurt! Welsh Wizard, you are really kind thank you. Its a long story but half my work is in london and half near birmingham. I was just west of Birmingham when it happened and have been staying with my family near Brum since it happened. Funnily enough Im really missing riding the bike and Im gutted that the bike is wrecked. Dont have enough dosh to replace it now which is a pity coz Ill need smthng and I cant think of another similar bike that I like/can afford. MAYBE an old Varadero but I just wish I could find smthng shaft drive for about £2k. Ah well...still not gonna be ready to ride again for a while anyway. Thanks again everyone for being so nice!!

That sucks, Stutrump. Keep us posted on your healing and your path to a new Tenere someday. Hopefully this forum will help keep you plugged in until then and not be too agonizing. You are living through something that most of us fear and have always as a thought in the back of our minds. I know it is small consolation that it could have been worse, but ....
Hopefully you drink! I lift a dram of a fine single malt, from further north on your island, to your health! ::003::

Wouldn't it have been cheaper to replace insrument console ?

Sorry to hear about your collision and hope you make a fast recovery. I'll certainly be looking for some specific bits for my bike, but hate the thought of vulturising.

Keep in touch!

Stu, no offense taken, I thought that you were just saluting my city. It's just my "stage name" anyway. Now, if you would have called me: "Beemer Bob", "Ducati Dan" or even "Harley Harold", we would have had a real problem. ::025::

By the way, I trust you have heard this (just in case you haven't):
