Just done a second little camp trip upto n around Snowdonia in the UK on my awesome new S10 ::012:: with my mate who was also on one too that he'd bought the same week as me and as we journeyed about over the 400 miles we did, it occurred to me I never saw or see any S10's out n about. The weather was fairly good n there were plenty of bikes hooning around, but not a single big Yam. Seemed 80% of the bikes we did see were Beemers namely of the GS persuasion. Nice to have camaraderie with others on the same steed n all, but we sort of of felt nicely exclusive. ::008:: Certainly got plenty of interest from other bikers when pulled up. Wonder are they selling poorly in the Uk? They deffo seem as rare as rocking horse poop from what I can tell...

Well the Beemer thing is like the GoPro thing.

The are a few decent brands around but since now GoPro is a word not a brand, most people think GoPro for sports camera's, Harley for cruiser, Band-aid for wound dressings etc. So if they want an Adventure bike they go to the BMW dealer because it's safe and an easy bet. They are good bikes, when they are running, people will say "nice BMW" even if it's not a BMW and the resale MAY be good.

Otherwise you may have to risk being a bit different and out there with another choice and have people look at you like you were strange or something.

I keep looking at a DRIFT HD Ghost-S for a camera, same problem. People might think it's a small grenade launcher or something.

Imagine riding down the road on another type of adventure bike with a camera on the side of my helmet OMG! Talk about a 1% er ;D

Anyway not that many people own gold bullion either, or manage to pick it up for the same price as recycled aluminum.

As another "rare as rocking horse poop" S10 rider over in the neighbouring county of Derbyshire, I bid you and your friend welcome to the fold. I think that our bikes may be considered rare in the UK, especially in comparison to GS's and I often have the same experience as you when riding around. I very rarely see another S10 rider and if I do, I tend to gravitate toward them like a hungry tramp to a free sandwich. Talking to a fellow motorcycle rider is always good but a conflab with another Tenere rider is a very rare treat indeed. I never imagined that riding an S10 and having a Drift camera fixed to the side of my lid would make me a 1%' er though. :D

I normally like owning oddball, unusual things, so in my book its a good thing being a 1% er. It'll be more special when I see an S10 flying past me... ::012::

Hello neighbour! I'd be the same if I saw one. Infact I was camping in the van a few months back again up Snowdonia before I actually owned one, n just come from swimming in a lake when I saw one coming round a bend coming towards me. Can't believe I was jumping about trying to get him to stop. I were like a big kid! He musta thought I was a nutter tho n kept on going bless him... :D Actually saw him again in the same spot on that holiday.., but I tried to be calm n manly that time! ::)

Hi Bob

I cam e the the conclusion some time ago that the Brit bike press are full of Shite, it depends on what brand have the best (i.e. largest) marketing budget with said magazine. I used to think Ride magazine was way better than Bike magazine on this point but if you look at the product placement on there " Euro touring Specials" over the last couple of years the photos are all trumpets, then read the small print the bikes are supplied for the purpose. The we wonder why the S10 gets a rough ride.

To be honest, the more I ride the big girl, the more I sniff the BS sprouted about. Think the weight n handling is the biggest surprise to me. Ya'd think I'm riding a bloody gret barge with the stuff ya read. Another example is the (been around here alot longer) 'really fast n powerful' WC GS is miles faster. It's not important to me which is, but come on.., just half a second to the quarter mile..! ::)Yep the S10 is pretty crap then... ??? Least the 'leviathan' Yamaha would finish the distance more often... ;) Anyhows, hope the S10 just keeps on ticking over with enough sales to keep Yamaha happy, but not enough where they become routinely seen on n off the roads...Me likes the 'exclusive club'! ::008::

same here in the north-west - very rare.

You rarely see one at the usual haunts / bike meets like cat on, devils bridge, st annes etc. very unusual.

it worries me a little around re-sale value as they clearly aren't popular!

Let's face it Yam have been slow to extoll the virtues of the 2014 updates, probably because there are so many pre-reg 2013s around here in the UK & they want to ?keep the dealers on-side. I like a bit of exclusivity too, but not so much that it hits the residuals come change time. Maybe the upcoming XT07/09 will help?

It would be nice to think that R&D are busy working on the next gen S10 too............ ::26::

Has there ever been a big'ish' Tenere meet in the UK? Bet it'd be cool seeing a carpark full of rocking horse poops! :) Me and me mate have both got a S10 so we might be the biggest gathering so far... Actually does that constitute us being a club? :D

there's also an irony somewhere that this site is (mostly) an American site and they seem pretty keen on them and have sold a few there - and yet, the Americans had to fight with Yamaha to get them to sell the SuperTen there in the first place!!

Well it seems we will have to sort a meet up then. I got a mate in local bike club whos also on an S10, Blue 13 model same as mine, hes based in Staffs too. Theres also a Silver one I have seen quite frequently shooting in & out of Burton, any idea who??

Maybe a blat out to Snowdonia for the day or if too far Shropshire or the Peak District?? Just a few suggestions as im not sure where the owners are located other than Notts & Chesterfield.

Maybe a UK S10 owners club isnt a bad idea ( UKSTOC ), (USTOC ) I intentionally staid away from the idea of British Super Tenere Owners Club as I`m sure some jokers on their more common adventure bike would make some interesting names up from that acronym!

I thought this too... Was very surprised when doing the reading up about the bike before buying, that what looks like the biggest applicable forum is geared towards our cousins across the pond. No bad thing in itself, cus obviously gonna be a far bigger crowd, with alot more knowledge and banter, but sometimes perhaps a little more awkward when ya have UK biased questions, meets, etc n its just plain odd we ain't got one too, unless the Tenere Uk forum counts, but that looks more suited to the 750's, I know, when I had a Versys 650 the UK forum was thriving and still is at the same time as the US equivalent. I was on both forums... Still, guess with the numbers involved a UK forum might be like a run down pub on a Monday night.., just a few regulars propped up against the bar supping mild. ???

;) Yep would have to be careful with the name. I though 'S club 10', :D If ya worldly enough ya might no its similar to a cheesy young Brit pop band of some years ago! ;) Wouldn't av a clue how such a club would start tho... ::020:: Think I said previously in another thread would be game for a ride out. I'm from Notts so fairly local, but still reckon the Peak District is one of the more reachable locations for S10 riders come from the all corners, but easy going should other ideas come along. Biggest thing is making somert happen... 8)

Yep I agree with most of that, and yeah im old enough to remember S C 7 or at least one of the female members >:D

Lets wait for the Lancashire guys to chip in to see if there interested, partly the reason for suggesting Wales but then again Glossop or Buxtons probably just as easy to reach for them??

Hows Sunday 28th September for a starting bid??

Does anyone know how to contact the admin? I`m a newbee but was going to suggest an area for UK meets & UK stuff to sell, i.e. second hand. The rest of the site is great to mix ideas with the guys from the US

Know what you are saying - the US boys are very knowledgable on the S10 though - they've had them a while and seem to do a fair bit more miles than the typical UK rider. I guess some live in climates where they can ride all year - although the norther fellas only get a few months riding a year!

It helps that the models are practically identical - except i think its the canadian ones have indicators that are 'on' all the time (and flash off) and the US ones for some weird reason, don't have the emergency hazard warning switches unless they retro-fit a 'euro' switchgear - i can't figure that one out at all, but theres probably some obscure type-regulation that forbids it.

The UK tenere forum is all about the old 750 model - but you would think some of those owners would eventually migrate to the new model. They don;t seem to though.

I was a member on the UK v-strom forum - still am - and its a lively place too.

Peaks was only a suggestion R & G, was waiting for some responses to see what area we are spread over then pick somewhere central (ish) to the spread, maybe the lakes will be more central yet, will have to wait & see.

::003::

Oh just thought, we might have Border control to pass after the 18th of September, must get my passport updated ;D

Had a quick look on the 750 forum. A few snippets about the S10 spreadover a few years, but dunna think I'll be able to do an Tenere engine rebuild from the info on offer just yet. ;)

Do ya think it would be worth starting a seperate thread to see if anyone / how many might be up for a gathering and where everyone is..?
