Yes, we have unified brakes when you apply the front brake lever. Apply the rear brake lever first, then front, they're disconnected.
Noticed at the very end, "fuel grade: regular". And there was that 12% dirt rider number again. The author is not one of those 12%.

Thanks Don,
unified brakes, that's the phrase ! It's a good thing the bike come with all of the ridding aids, otherwise I'd be all over the road, so to speak. ::025::

For a long term test it's a bit light on opinions and a bit heavy on information you can lookup on a Yamaha web site.

Did I just read a review on paint drying? jeez talk about lazy journalism.

Curious, has there been a poll on this site as to the amount of people who ride off road?

my question would be, does Ken Freund [author of above article] even ride???
There are NO riding comments of consequence, NOR influence,

BUT there IS the ever ready poison pill of the Super Tenere: "Also there’s no way to shut off the ABS for tough off-road riding."

IMO, Ken Freund is much more of a reader of previously written S10 material then an actual rider in the real world.....

RR has never been very good at testing bikes. They are pretty good at touring reports and photos.

MCN, motorcycle consumer news is about the best in real world bike testing.

I found this interesting under the technical specifications list:
"Fuel Grade regular" ??? Did the 2014's go down of fuel requirements?

While I agree that RR normally doesn't have very interesting bike reviews and this is another example of that, Mr. Freund says in the article that he got to ride a 2014 standard coast to coast during last year's Cannonball Centennial ride. Yamaha provided several 2014 S10's for some of the riders in that group and he had one of them. I got to meet several of the riders when they did an overnight stop near where I live in IL. Also, per this article about him in RR, he has been riding for 45 years.

In a previous edition of RR he wrote about the Cannonball Centennial ride and said he would review the S10 in the future and I was looking forward to reading his impressions. As others have noticed, this was a rather vanilla review, per RR's usual standards. I like that mag for the articles on riding areas and trips, but never did find their bike reviews of much value.

This may be a pic of him. I talked to this guy, but didn't get his name.

I was hoping for more riding insights. Mostly a rehash of old info. One opinion was the Tenere didn't handle some of the bumps as well as the KTM.........otherwise I was disappointed in the article from a LONG term evaluation stand point. How was the power for passing, did the cruise work well, how did the panniers work, comfort of the seat, how did it handle the wind, was there buffeting, how was the lighting at night, etc. Never mind I was referring to the travel article or evaluation article wasn't to bad, though still a little bland.

As it has been said in this thread, the article on the S10 is a bit weak. I've been a subscriber to Road Runner for about 10 years now and I have found that most of their motorcycle evaluations are lacking. Generally other articles in this magazine aren't too bad and I continue to subscribe mainly to give me inspiration to travel on a motorcycle.

I like RR for their touring articles but they stink at bike evaluation. Just as they did with the FJR, NOT ONCE in the test did they mention that the Tenere has factory cruise control. That's an inexcusable oversight for a long term road test. Yeah, RR is good at offering a little inspiration on interesting places to go riding, but that's about it for me.
