Hi Tenere guys & gals,

I am looking to enhance my safety and would like to add a LED light bar to my tenere. Like the SR 6" from Rigid.
But would like to have it on all the time as a low beam (like on 40% power), and only go on 100% with the high beams.
Does anybody know if there is a wiring harness out there, that would support my plan?

I found a similar setup for other LED lights (http://www.cyclopsadventuresports.com/-Long-Range-Optimus-LED-Auxliary-light-Round_p_10.html), but not the rigid light bars.
Any ideas welcome!

Thanks and Merry Christmas from the Canadian prairies!

I tried using the ADV monster dimmer switch ($60) and it lasted just a few months before it failed. To compound the problem, the butthead that owns it wouldn't make good on the 1 year warranty because it wasn't used on one of his lights ::010:: So I spread a kind word when I get a chance ;)

Now I just have it at 100% and aimed slightly down. I still have great lighting, but don't get flashed day or night.

I also used the Skene controller in Greg's blog post above, but I do know there are some Rigid lights that are no longer compatible. Check skenedesigns.com for the latest.

STSaskatoon,

I have not been able to get a definitive answer from Rigid about which lights and after what manufacturer dates work with dimmer modules. I have sent a number of emails and a few phone calls. Lots of well it depends on when your light was made and which model, but not a lot of details.

What you are trying to do has been done, so you should be able to accomplish it too.

You might want to look a little deeper into the Skene Designs Intelligent Controller. It works for me with the Rigid SR-Series 6" light bar (the driving light pattern).

As covered in those links, I run mine on 10% with low beam but can switch to 20% or 50%. High beam is 100%.
10% is plenty as a visibility light in traffic since it's not DOT compliant. On the open road, 50% with low beam is a nice light boost.

Why not just use the PIAA LP530 LED light set? The kit comes with the brackets, harness, switch, etc.

Then get the special connector from EC so you can just plug and play into the bikes accessory harness:

Just so everyone knows.

Thanks Goldwing,
would the PIAA 530 allow the option of day driving light and a light boost at dark night?
Or only the "on & off' option?

Thanks to all you guys for your comments. Very helpful!
I still have a couple more questions though: What about the PIAA 530 LED.
If i go with the wiring harness as proposed, do i have the day driving light and the high beam option?

Thanks from the prairies!

Hi, The PIAA lights come in Driving lights or Fog lights but they are only on or off as controlled by the separate switch that comes with the kit.

They are very bright for only a 6 watt per light LED bulb!!

I went with the PIAA 530, once aimed correctly, there's no need for dimmer switch.
I really love the looks, match very nicely on the bike covering that weird hole under the headlights.

Looks great. Are they wired up to turn on and off with the high beams?

No Sir, they have a separated switch which comes with the kit.

On the following picture, it is the one next door to the Oxford heated grips controller.

I think Rigid makes a bar with their Hi-Lo feature. Somewhere in their documentation it says they don't play well with dimmers. Cyclops sells theirs with a dimmer if I 'member right.

So- I've read and read.... nothing definitive on pairing a Rigid 90631/90661 light bar with the Skene controller. I know what doesn't work- but does anybody have this set up and have it working successfully? I'm looking to do exactly what the OP said- dimmed on low beam, full 100% when I switch to high beam. Called Skene and he is looking into it- I'll post an update if I learn anything from him.
