I’m sure it’s been posted on here, but I haven’t been able to find anything....

What are the favorite Apps for tracking/planning your rides?

Google maps for offline use and for places I have no idea of where I am going.
Waze if I have a general idea of where I am going and will have cell phone signal on the majority of the trip.

Google gives you better turn by turn directions, letting you know stuff like there are 2 left turn lanes. But Waze has user generated alerts for police, and accidents also has rerouting around traffic backups but requires cell signal. So both have a place for different situations.

furkot (they have an app but I use the web version)
Its a trip planner that can do all sorts of stuff like set your fulling stops. AWESOME thing to just plug in the 250 miles or whatever and it will tell you the stops you need to make.

Other random apps I use for riding.
Music app. I use black player because it has a decent audio amp, and plays well with my sena.

Fuelly.
Log my gas fills, and track my maintenance on all my vehicles.

I use google to find interesting places to goto.

then FURKOT is the best for planning your router using the fuel range to plan you refuelling. Add a fuel stop and the next part of you route recalculates for the next distance then find a gas station nearby a nd repeat.
Great for group ride planning when you know the lowest tank capacity in your group - just reclculate.
You can also export the routes as day trips and import it into GARMIN GPS. Just be warned to test it. some waypoints in ONLINE maps do not match GPS maps - you are at the mercy of the GPS devices routing so set alot of waypoints if you need to take a particular road.

A few users like Scenic Motorcycle Touring app to track live stats on the trip while you ride. Gives routes taken, altitude, speeds etc stats during the ride.

They say it should even work with google maps but I've not got them to play nice with each other (I only tried twice and didn't care enough to keep going). I still like it for pre planning and I can just jot down my stop cities in 3 clicks rather than playing around inside google maps for half an hour figuring distances.

when you set waypoints - they are actually gps coord... sometimes the waypoint coords look OK in FURKOT and Google maps, but on the GPS it is actually just off the road and then the GPS can have issues routing... the simplest way to describe one issue is that if a waypoint is not reached because it is off the road, the gps will keep pinging you to do a u-turn to go back as you have missed the waypoint - worse is when u-turn is set as avoidance and it keeps redirecting you to go somewhere in the wrong direction to your destination. You must pass through waypoints for the trip route to then continue to next waypoint.... this is not FURKOT's fault... just an anomaly! what makes this worse is when you have GPS setting set and routing get f'd up and starts telling you to turn left into a fence and drive through a paddock! FURKOT is a very smart planner... but GPS device routing is dumb and dumber when features are left set and confuse what you want.

The other big issue is GPS map updates.... even the latest GPS map updates can still be over a year old for the road you are wanting to travel.
I was planning trips every night in FURKOT and one night i spend 4 hours trying to get the Gamin 590 GPS trip planner to follow the destinations I was inputting into the GPS manually (no computer to download and import into GPS - Thanks Garmin !!!! ) Damn thing was routing me all over the place! road was definitely sealed and was confirmed by local waitress that it's been tar for nearly 2 years!..... welll not according to Garmin Map Updates... there was still a 100m dirt part and as i had unsealed roads set as avoidence my trip planning was getting screwed up and redirected!. How can you say no to a road nicknamed 1000 corners!... Omeo to Mitta Mitta Australia!
