The only way round is through
Have done 500 KM and still bonding. This is my first big traillie and must admit I wanted a GS but couldn’t get on with it, no need to go into detail, if you are reading this I am sure you understand.
Coming off a 5 year stint on a tiger 1050, there is a lot to get used to. Really like the pick up form pootle in 1st and 2nd, love the lowdown weight turning into corners, surprised how stealthy the static weight is, I am breaking in so can’t comment on the power but it doesn’t feel effortless, gun it off the blocks and the power sort of dips when I would expect it to get going, whining singing tone in 2nd at 55 Kmh – hope that goes away, not sure yet if I would want to be all day on this mount, twisties better than imagined but trails the pegs too early, left hero is no longer domed and there is still about 5 mm of unused chicken stripe on the rear Metzler, no hero on the right peg, can’t hang off because the seat has square edges (?), harder spring?
I wasn’t planning going off-road but getting into the confident ride over bumps and already taking some grass verges and humpy bits on a building site, only a question of time before I fit some crash bars and do some trails. Leave the spring then?
Questions:
Buffeting. I have a Touratech screen adjuster installed with standard screen but can’t find joy. MRA Vario or Yamaha touring screen on the Ttech adjuster?
Anybody fitted the MRA sport screen? I like naked and clean air, so a solo sporty and 2-up comfort configuration would suit me.
How many (safe) Ks after going to ‘reserve’?
I am really enjoying this bike and know that I will grow into it. My wife still prefers the Tiger – give her time.
Great forum too. Let me contribute straight away: I get shuffled forwards on the perch, and owing to the non slip seat material, I am suffering goolie-garrotting. I fixed this by hooking the saddle into the lowest setting at the back and blocking up the front. Here is a pic. of a prototype which I might develop. I will put more details in another topic.
