Feb 4 (Reuters) - U.S. motorcycle store chain Cycle Gear Inc. is close to acquiring RevZilla, a website that sells motorcycle apparel, in deal that would create a company valued at between $400 million and $500 million, including debt, a person familiar with the matter said.

A deal is expected to be announced in the coming days, according to the person, who asked not to be identified because the deal is not yet finalized and could still fall apart.

RevZilla and J.W. Childs, the private equity firm that owns Cycle Gear, could not immediately be reached for comment.

The deal will help Benicia, California-based Cycle Gear, which has more than 100 stores in 34 states, expand its Internet footprint. Philadelphia-based RevZilla, which has $100 million in sales, is owned by three young motorcycle enthusiasts who founded the company as twentysomethings in 2007.

RevZilla YouTube's page, which posts product reviews and videos about motorcycles, has more than 60 million views.

I'm not a fan of cyclegear for the most part, and I feel that this sucks for the customers, as I did like revzilla.
I do understand the revzilla guys taking a big payday off of this.

Congrats to the guys for becoming self-made millionaires by roughly 30. Truly hats off.

But if Cycle Gear doesn't keep RevZilla as a high end part of their business, it'll be like Harbor Freight buying Snap-On or Craftsman tools.

+1 It's a good thing when you can turn your hobby into millions! Me, I seem to piss away millions on my hobby.. ::025::

Revzilla is the best! Excellent customer service, fair pricing, and high end products. I hope that continues.
I was on the phone with them yesterday to order a Remus can for the R1200R. I asked about their retail store in Philly and if they had plans to expand the retail operation. Of course the guy on the phone could only say "there's a lot of talk here about that"...

Yea, I certainly hope it's just an ownership change and nothing more. Certainly don't need to have Revzilla full of that crap gear from CG! Keep them seperate! Please!!

A hundred million in sales annually I doubt they need this deal at all, crazy.

Good for them, I on the other hand do not have this luck, I was trying to give away a vintage printing press, finally a museum took it, turns out it's worth a couple grand.... ::019:: meanwhile all the crap I think is worth money........

I really like Revzilla. Great customer service, great video's of the products to help pick/see the product you want. I happily will pay a little extra for all that.

Cycle Gear years ago was nice as they had a fairly good selection in the stores before the Built stuff came along. Very narrow selection now at the stores. I hope this merger will only "enhance" the selection, and not degrade the selection and service that Revzilla has. Maybe the Cycle Gear stores will once again have a wider selection in the stores now.

One could only hope that the low budget Cycle Gear stores get renamed to Revzilla. Now that would be great.

There's more to it then the name, way more!

Before I discovered Revzilla I did most of my on-line accessory business with Motorcycle Superstore.
Over the past week or so I've received a lot of advertising from them. Perhaps they're aware of the pending merger and are making a pre-emptive attempt to win back my business.

Revzilla is great online but there retail store in philly is a joke . Went there about a month ago to buy some Klim gear and NOTHING was on sale and no scratch and dent stuff , nothing but gear, no battery tender or maybe a tankbag ?? I had the greenlight to blow the credit card up and went home with nothing

It's good to have a place to place to go and try on the gear for proper fit, no?
I've never thought of Revzilla as a place to shop for bargains, and on many occasions I had them exercise their price match policy. If it's bargain pricing ya want Cyclegear would be a good choice for you.

If ya want top tier products at a fair price, excellent customer service, and a no hassle return policy.... Revzilla, hands down!

This is bullshit. I was at Revzilla this morning with my wife. Their boutique is hands down the most awesome place on the face of the earth for motorcycle gear. I had my youngest son with me. The people who work there are REAL people. They can hold actual personable conversations with people without coming off creep or arrogant. I didn't buy anything this time, but I checked out a couple of high end rukka jackets that I've been looking at (Which now I'm sold on... and I'll be buying come this spring).

One of the sales guys entertained my 4 year old and was super friendly without being the overbearing sales guy, and let me just browse. He even offered to let my little one sit on the beautiful MV Agusta sitting in the showroom (which I would have been jealous of just to sit on LOL). I've never had that experience at cycle gear.

I'm disappointed as a customer. Happy for Anthony. That guy is excellent at what he's done with that business. He has happy employees, and a strong customer base. Hope that doesn't change.

Cycle Gear is wholly unimpressive and their Bilt gear should be found on the damaged/open item rack at Walmart. Revzilla aligning themselves with that?! Everyone has a price tag I suppose. I'll just stick with Bombay Motorsports and Twisted Throttle.

Iron Pony probably isn't too awful far from you. Sport Tour is in Cincinnati as well.

Ditto. Iron Pony and Sport Tour are both great to deal with. Very helpful staff.
