Reverse shift pattern?

Yeah, ok, so shoot me :) I'm a GP shift pattern guy. Been that way for several years now. I knew going in that the S10 did not have a clear way to change the shifter from standard to GP or reverse shift. I am trying to work with it, but after 400+ miles this weekend and too many mis-shifts, going down instead of up mostly, I am wondering if anyone has figured out a way to change the S10's shift pattern. I have a couple of ideas on how it can be done, all of which require some modifications/fabrication. So before I dig in to that, anyone already been there done that? Anyone else even interested if I do the work?

PS: Don't beat me up to bad, old dog is just having a hard time relearning and switching back and forth between my track bikes and the S10 is probably going to wind up getting me hurt :)

Looks like there is room to just swap the gear shift dog 180 degrees and then make a new shifter link. Probably require a big gusseted corner at the top as the tranny is in the way to make a straight shot to it with a rod. Something like a triangle shape flat piece to connect to the new location of the dog, and then to the shifter.

Can't imagine trying to remember both bikes, shift pattern.

You think that messes you up, try having an old brit bike and a Japanese bike at the same time. ::025:: ::025::

However, if you're "really" an old guy, I have to admire you for still doing track days on a GP bike ::012::

Yeah, I have 4 old Bultacos that I ride and I race 2 of them. My 78 that I ride in vintage cross country events shifts on the left and my 74 that I race in MX shifts on the right. Usually takes me a couple laps in practice with the 74 before it becomes second nature again. As long as I remember to take it easy for those first few practice laps, I am ok. ;D

LOL older than the vast majority of my students. probably average age for the riders on here though. it is fun to see the youngsters reactions when a big old ogre passes them on the track like they are standing still :D.

I knew a guy who raced AHRMA road racing into his late 70's, maybe even 80's. I came from dirt, but can't do it anymore. I think dirt is probably a little more demanding physically than road racing. That ought to get some debate ;)

It's all good, just keep on riding, eh?
