Yep bud I understood that it was a top out spring, thanks -- it was still helpful information.

If my cartridge is fucked I'll probably get the Ohlin's cartridge but I didn't think it was necessary from the beginning

Very fast GOOGLE explanation.... I miss spoke... Not a bottom out spring..... Its a Top out Spring.... Sorry.....

I think when this is taken apart it will be evident...... If not, start looking at the 'top out spring' area.....

The image of the cartridge fork on the left appears to be upside down. The cartridge should be at the bottom so it’s always submersed in oil, but the image shows what looks like the axle hole at the opposite end. Putting the axle carrier at the same end as the cartridge would correct it.

Just for reference.... Here is the "stock" Ohlins top out springs I pulled out....

Yep, your 100% correct ..... neither picture is representative of the Super Tenere... Just a very fast "idea' of the top out spring and a possible place to start the "look over".......

Check valve was torsioned and stuck open. On rebound valve.

the clunking was the top-out spring topping out hard and fast.

Makes sense.... Have you found the cause yet ? Reason why ? I would suggest looking at that top out spring and make sure its not broken or crimped down on the coils... Just make sure it's OK....

I installed it poorly, that’s why. There's a small bushing that should press against the valve and keep the check valve shim free, but it was actually pushing against the inner rim of the shim and locking /torting it, screwing up the check valve and thus causing ZERO rebound dampening. Either way it needed to be opened up so I can secure the thread a little better. Top out spring looks good, thankfully
