I am a former Gen 1 ST owner that was seduced to sell it by the idea of a fiery orange ADV. After a couple years of trying to like that bike, I just purchased a lightly used 2017 non-ES. It only took a few minutes to feel like all was right in my world again. The ST is definitely heavier, steers slower, and doesn't have quite the raucous persona of the 1290, but is just feels right. I never really liked the suspension on the 1290, the front end didn't ever feel quite planted (vague feedback), and if you sneezed loudly it threw out some electronic error that would prevent you from adjusting suspension, utilizing the quick shifter or hill hold capability that had to be re-added to the bike's software every few months, or worse....starting the bike. I took a 16 day trip through BC and up to Hyder, Alaska this summer on my KLR because I didn't trust the orange bike to not leave me stranded somewhere. Many people say that the Super Tenere lacks the character of Euro bikes, but I think those same people must just like a lot of drama in their lives. My moto time is my therapy. I just want my bike to work and give me confidence that it won't leave me stranded. So far I am enjoying the GEN 2. Definitely a little smoother than the GEN 1 and stock windscreen set up is much better. Otherwise, it just feels like home. Glad to be back.

Welcome back, from Texas. I'm amazed that the steering feels heavier on the Tenere.

Welcome back.
Those orange bikes have something that takes the shine off the power and accessories…
Keeps Taking Money.
Stupidly expensive parts if you break any.

Ya, its like a women, the fiery ones though fun in the short term don't necessarily make a good wife, stable and reliable.
BTW, welcome back from British Columbia Canada.
