No such thing as factory fog lights (on the US models to my knowledge). There's factory headlights, but fog lights would have been added by someone else.

What is your reason to replace the factory fogs? Looking for a cheaper replacement because of failure or just not happy with the lighting?

I only ask because I came across a set for a good price and was considering getting them. Curious how you like the PIAA's.

I read somebody on facebook had a similar question, i think it was because the factory yamaha one was led, and he was told you had to bin the light as it would not open to replace a bulb.

might be the same person, that asked on facebook, my gen 1 factory lamps have bulbs in i guess the gen 2 ones are led

I'm a little confused. The factor aux lights are H7 halogen bulbs just like the headlights. These are not DOT rated so never sold thru dealerships in the US. In the US the PIAA 530s were sold with mounting kits thru dealers, but they do not interchange with the Yamaha H7 lights on the same brackets. The 530s can be purchased as a Super Tenere kit with brackets though. LINK for a pair of 530 lights w/o brackets.

So the answer depends on where the OP is and if they had the H7 lights or the LED lights, which would have been the same as the PIAA 530.

Only looking to change them because I live in a heavily wooded part of South Australia and have a big problem with wildlife on the roads, mainly kangaroos. In a 20 km ride the other night I had over 12 kangaroos jump across the road , the lights that are on there now just don’t have the depth they are more of a fog light. The quality and what they are designed for is good just not for my application.

I’ll pull one off tomorrow and look at just what they are and take a pic and post it (if I can work out how to post )

If you click on the picture icon above the text reply box, then just drag your photo into the box. It will re-size for you usually. And/Or give you thumbnail options.

The old PIAA tenere kit was H7 same as the headlights, the new PIAA LP 530 are LED, the old H7 are pretty useless...I'm in a similar position to you Steve, my commute to and from work is kangaroo paradise, in two years I've hit 3 of the buggers on my FJR1300 (no longer have) have been researching lights that will blind and fry the fuc!@#s.

People always complain about the winters here in Canada. I always say at least we don't need to worry about rattlesnakes, alligators or large spiders like the southern US. I guess I will add kangaroos to the list. Deer and Moose are an issue some times, but I have never had 12 deer cross the road in front of me.

Be safe out there.

Yes it’s a problem, I’m in the Mallee country and since all of the firearms laws changed some years ago the population of kangaroos/foxes/rabbits & drop bears has multiplied 10 fold even making hard in the daylight sometimes.

Kangaroos usually hang out in mobs ( between 3 & 12) the problem is as you approach 1 or 2 might hop out and cross then just as you think phew missed them another 3 or more will follow. They get dazzled & confused by the lights stop turn etc they are so unpredictable. The obvious answer here is not to ride at night but that’s not always practical so the more depth you can get with the lights I guess is just a little more chance of advanced warning.

I’m using a pair of Great Whites, that fit with the PIAA Yamaha brackets and provide 3x the wattage of the Yamaha accessory PIAAs. Of interest to you is that Great Whites are Australia based!
