Howdy,
Well it looks like I'm there, so to those of you who have replaced your Sargent seat what did you replace it with and why?
Later,
Norm

Norm, I live in MA and have a second generation Sargent front seat you can take for a spin if you want.

Howdy,
Sorry, I guess I was not clear, I have a Sargent Gen II seat and it is too hard. I've given it more than enough time to break in etc. So if you have had a similar experience and did replace your Sargent what did you replace it with and did it fix the "too hard" issue.
Thanks,
Norm

If you ride a bit more, it will become really comfortable. I have about 50k miles on my Sargent, and it has broken in nicely.

The Super Tenere Sargent V2 I had just didn't *fit* me... Which is surprising since I've had several other Sargent saddles on other bikes over the years and they *fit* me perfectly, and I loved them. I was really looking forward to a Sargent for my S-10, but alas it just didn't work.

Just goes to show ya' how no matter what, seats are a very personal thing, and one that works for one person won't work at all for another.

Sargent makes a great product, with exemplary quality, fit, finish, etc., and I've never had one tear, split a seam, have the foam break down, etc. or have any other issue, and they do have a 30-day trial with return policy (http://www.sargentcycle.com/Support/Sargent-Seats-Returns/) so you can try it and if you don't like you can return it no questions asked. They're a great company to deal, or at least have been with me over the years.

Right now I am switching back and forth between a Cee Baileys modded stocker and a Seat Concepts modded stock saddle. Both are terrific for me, but each has pros and cons...

The Cee Baileys sits lower and has more of a "tractor seat" shape that's very comfy, and it's a lot easier to move around on, especially when riding twisty sections. OTOH, it uses visco-foam (like a TempurPedic bed), so it can seem a bit soft at times, especially in hot weather, and its cover really soaks up heat in hot weather, too. Because it can feel overly soft sometimes that can lead to occasional *hot-spots* and not much air circulation. I prefer it around town, for short jaunts, and anytime I'm heading into country with lots of curvy roads.

The Seat Concepts (with the firm foam option), is much, MUCH taller... Even taller than stock. So much so that even when it's mounted in the "low" position on the bike it sits higher than the stock seat in the bike's "high" position. But that can be a small advantage under the proper circumstances. It has a much more level seating surface than stock, and is slightly narrower where my legs go down, so it a bit better at getting my feet on the ground at that seat height. It is also very firm, which is a good thing on long treks. Its shape is almost ideal for me, and I can ride on it for hours. It's cover isn't too sticky, but it isn't to slick, either. Just the right amount of *adhesion* for long trips. And the added height reduces the bend in my knees, which is a good thing since I have artificial hip joint implants and two bad, arthritic knees. At the moment I prefer the Seat Concepts for long, long rides.

I have had a Bill Mayer Saddle for a year and I love it. I did the "ride in" build. They had already done over 80 ST seats at that time, so I think they could do a mail in seat just about as well. They lowered the rear which took out the forward slope of the stock seat, and made the front thicker, which gives me more thigh support and spreads my weight more evenly. I am 6'4" and very glad I had this mod done on my way to Alaska. 13200 miles in 5 weeks. They had identical material to stock. They are located in Ojai, California. I weigh 265 and my stock foam felt like a kitchen sponge at 19000 miles. I now have 45000 on the odo and very happy.

I've put 48,000 on the stock seat and really didn't mind it... but I thinks it's finally in need of replacement. I have always loved Sargent seats. I would love to try a Sargent seat. I'm in NC.

Brick,

I'll be passing through NC this coming Monday. What part are you in?
