Hi, I' m in the process of installing the OE heated grips kit on my 2014 model, have taken out the bolt in the end of the bar weights and there is now no obvious way of removing the bar end weights and they seem to be stuck fast fast. Am I missing something obvious here, I don't want to damage anything. Would appreciate some advice from anyone that has done this installation.

I had removed the bar ends on my 2012 but have not on my 2015.

If your 2014 is like the 2012 you should be able to remove the bar ends by hand. Maybe a tap from a rubber/plastic hammer.

I fitted heated grips to my 2014 model and as far as I can remember you need to use a ( hex key / alan key ) to undo the the bar end weights. ;D

Tight fit. Tap with a hammer
very bad idea...
Once the allen key is removed, you need to unscrew the bar end (2 flat notch but I do not remember the size... 19 mm maybe.). In some cases, those have been assembled with Loctite and can be difficult to remove. Problem is you can't heat it up. Mine came out easily.

You will need a 12mm hex head socket to remove the bar ends on a 2014. I had to order one from NAPA because most stores only carry up to 10mm. Once you have the right tool the job is very easy.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'm pleased to confirm that the 2014 does require a 12mm hex key, and lucky for me I had one, easy peasy, no thread lock present :)

Nothing about the bars, but if you want them to work with the integrated heat controller (even the non-ES bikes have it) they have to be the correct power ratings. there's some other threads around where someone figured out what the right spec were and I think easternbeaver.com sells the proper connectors so you don't have to splice.

Can heated grips from the factory be removed and reinstalled without damage. I want to shorten my bars by a few inches. (2015 ES)
There are a few things going on inside the ends of the bars of the '14-'15 that if you shorten them you'll be removing the stuff going on inside. The shorter bars of the new triple, FZ09?, seem like they have all the same stuff inside, plus they have a bit less sweep. A search should come up with the swap here.

From my memory it was conventional....lefty loosey. One of mine was ridiculously tight.

I think I used a socket type bit for it and a breaker bar on mine.

I tried several tools. What did the job was my Harbor Freight electric impact wrench. It left an impression on the flats of the receiving end of the weight.

Whoever built my bike make sure they would not loosen by accident!
