Here's wishing us all a most respectful Veterans' Day and Remembrance Day.

SOLDIERS

Their bodies were broken, parts missing and burned
And I left to go search for the lessons we’ve learned
Must this be our autograph, is this who we are
That we define our existence by going to war

We measure our gains by the injured and dead
And not by our leaders, and how well they have led
The call to wage war should not be yours or mine
It belongs to those placing their lives on the line

We must stand behind those who rise to the call
And honor all those who have honored us all

In spite of all rights and all wrongs that have passed
For history has taught us that most will not last
In the end it’s the soldiers who shoulder the load
And carry our burden down this righteous road

For good or for bad, we’re all in it now
No matter the why, or the where or the how
The ones who have promised to take on this chore
Are the same ones who we must respect and adore

We must stand behind those who rise to the call
And honor all those who have honored us all

These brave men and women were not there for fame
Nor should they be laden with guilt or with blame
They stood up and stepped up right into the fray
All knowing that there was a high price to pay

I want nothing more than to look on your face
And thank you for willingly taking my place
My most sincere wish is that someday we’ll meet
And I’ll take off my hat and I’ll kneel at your feet

So hold your heads high when you’re out in a crowd
I salute you and thank you for making us proud
You’ve given your best, some have given their all
And you still keep on giving in this hallowed hall

We must stand behind those who rise to the call
And honor all those who have honored us all

Here's to all the troops. Thanks for fighting to keep us riding free. We don't deserve your sacrifices but appreciate them more deeply than you can know.

Hi folks,

Fantastic writing, and really poignant. :)

I took a Remembrance Sunday ride today, to a former WW2 airfield with a memorial to the fallen. 121 folks flew out and never returned, and this is just one of many old airfields within a couple of hours ride from me in the east of England. There were UK, US, Canadian, Czech, Polish, French... The guys were all based here and showed immense courage. I always think of them whenever I drive or ride past these derelict military installations.

We shall remember them.

Matt

I think this is still somewhat on topic .... the next time 2 or 3 of you boys make it up here, we'll have to head up to Aishihik Village. It's an awesome gravel road that takes off about 70 miles north of Whitehorse towards Haines Junction. It was part of the Northwest Staging Route during World War II.

The old airstrip is still there, some old buildings and bunkers. Some great history, and an awesome ride to boot. Let me know if you're heading this way. Uh, not before May. R

I'm still preparing your invoice from last visit. I'll get it in the mail this week. Might do the South Canol this weekend .... if the three feet of snow melts in time. KILLING ME >>>>>

Hope you guys all had a good one. ::003:: My Christmas poem is in the making, so you've been warned. Bye for now. R ::020::
