I just saw this on my local off road forum.

Guys - sad news. Some of you may remember Dick Boyer (Red Cat) from the old ADSMC group. He was the guy that first opened my eyes to how fast you can travel on gravel many yrs back. I just saw a post on Advrider about him having a fatal deer encounter on the long weekend - here is what Earl posted late last night:

"Tragic crash Saturday September 2 /17.

Around noon just south of Turner Valley AB. (about 50km SW of Calgary)

Red Cat was involved with an apparent deer strike riding solo on a gravel road.

He was found almost immediately and transported to Black Diamond Hospital and then airlifted to Calgary.

Sadly, he passed away Sunday September 3/17."

Edit/update from Earl, RCs Calgary friend:

Head injuries required surgery but there was no brain response.

He was taken off life support around 4 PM next day Sunday Sept 3/17

RIP Richard Boyer, aka RED CAT

Tragic.

Deer are a menace. There should be no off season and no bag limit.

I just picked up my NEW Tenere after dealing with all the insurance crap following a deer hit on my beloved white S10. It was my third deer hit in four years. I totaled an FJR and two S10s. Roughly $40K in insurance payout and hours of pain in my ass to resolve.

My thoughts go out to REDCATs family.

God speed REDCAT.

My condolences to Red Cats friends and family, RIP.
It's unbelievable what deer accidents are costing us all and still next to nothing is done about it, around here hunters say there is a shortage of deer I say that's total BS ! If it was up to me they would be paying folks a bounty for everyone they got rid of until they were nearly eliminated. I have killed 5 deer with motorcycles and had so many other close calls with them it's unbelievable.

RIP Red Cat. I see deer all the time here in the uk, even on major routes like the M4. Nobody seems to care and they are a real menace. Good luck to Red Cats family..very sad news

Very sad news about RED CAT. I am fortunate that the deer population is low in this area.

It's messed up when one of us goes through no fault of his own.

I've known him, ridden with him, and ran into him a few times in the shops, at the bike show etc.

A very happy and kind human being. He will be missed.

Very very sad news. I've always enjoyed reading his posts here and on Advrider. Small consolation he left us pursuing his passion.
