Recent purchase -- no OEM bag mounts? Seriously?

I picked up my '15 ES a week ago and ordered all three bags, the crash bar and lights and bags liners. Everything is at the dealer except the bag liners and required bag mounts. I'm being told they are on back order and won't be in for a couple weeks (hopefully). It would seem to me that if Yamaha manufactures a set of bags, the number of bag mounts should closely match the number of bags made, but that's just me.

Anyone else experiencing this?

No, just you ::025::

Seriously though, sometimes bikes get sold without bags so the hardware goes with the bike and the bags to someone else, this goes on until you end up needing a set of bags with all the hardware, that's you. Why did the dealer parts dept not check all the available parts needed were not in stock? It will come, just relax and enjoy the bike, naked! ::021::

I don't wear all the gear all the time, but I always have clothes. LOL

They told me that the mounts were backordered but I never thought the wait would be 3 weeks at best. I just figured someone on manufacturing would look at those numbers and match them better. I could see folks replacing bags putting the numbers off but being short on mounts? I just think that's crazy.

I haven't ridden an unladen bike in years, I have to admit that I am really enjoying the weight, or lack of weight. I traded my GSA in on this bike and it outshines the BMW by leaps and bounds. I am really happy with my decision to change rides.

If anyone sees any unspoken for mounts let me know. ::022::

I'd wait for the mounts that have been ordered, incase you buy another set and the original dealer still charges you for the the set they ordered or charge a re-stocking fee.... I like riding without passengers and luggage, she (S10) is almost ballerina svelte like....

I had the same issue with the Yamaha bags and mounting kit. Dealer told me the mounting kit was on back order until mid October(previous experience with Yamaha usually means November) so I cancelled the entire $1,200 order and ordered the Givi outback 37Liter bags with mounting hardware from Revzilla. Had a nice big box at my front door in 4 days. Bags mounted and they are awesome. I highly recommend taking a look at the Give Outback bags.

Make sure you weren't charged for the Top box carrier, as it is standard equipment on the ES model.

Yamaha has this issue. When I ordered my '04 FJR, (2nd year in the US), it was a 6 month wait, yet the bags didn't show up until 2 weeks after I picked up the bike. And they were an included part!

You would think the dealer would have at least one set of luggage and mounting bits on hand. But now days dealers don't even have common parts any more. Just order them when you request them. I can get that service, often faster, from the internet vendors. ;)

My local dealer (not small by any means) doesn't even stock the washers required to do an oil change...

I have had this happen at two different area dealers, Honda and Kawasaki.

I asked about a bike and both asked who made it. I said you guys do. LOL

I think it's universal. If they say good things come to those who wait then I'm expecting good things.

It may not be worth the wait for the mounting hardware. I only used the OEM bags and mounts for a few months until I got fed up with them and bought aftermarket racks and bags. I wish I'd saved myself the trouble and just bought a naked bike.

On my Non-ES, all I had to do was take a metal plate off my tail section of the bike and put back the screws. Then install the lock in the case and that was it. no carrier at all on my bike.

Mounts are in! Bike is at the shop and I'm assured that I'll be riding a properly equipped scooter this weekend. All three bags, crashbar and lights, winglets...the whole nine yards. I'm pretty stoked.

I have all three bags, but ride quite often with just the top box. Everyone says it looks like a Streetfighter bike. They really like it in that configuration.

Finally all done. As of today, only the side bag liners are backordered. I like the bags fine enough but the top case is small. I'll have to figure out a way to secure my Nolan during breaks on trips. Crash bars look sturdy enough and I like the look of the lights.

Now I'm itching for a road trip.....

With all due respect, save your money and return the factory bags. Overpriced and there are many more out there that are much, much better.

This so much. They integrate very well with the bike but that's really the only good thing I can say about the OEM bags. The lock mechanism is prone to failure, there's no "unlocked" position, the lids don't fully come off, and they are heavy plastic and not fully metal.
