We're a pretty welcoming bunch of folks up here but ...... we just don't cotton to blue bikes. Nope. Just don't. Sorry. R

I read something about emigration policies for people who start businesses... That or government service work I guess. One of the people met at the Gold Rush was a retired lawyer. He said he wrote legislation for Yukon and worked on a few national things too. That kind of work appeals to the Mrs. I'm looking at more Computer Science training, specifically machine learning. There might be jobs in the oil/mining sector for AI developers. Or I could continue to consult, working remote like I do right now. <shrug> Who knows? Not me. Not worried about it. Just looking forward to more time in AK and YT next summer.

I would have no idea as to the current immigration policies. But I doubt there would be anything to prevent you from consulting to Canada. Alaska would be your best bet, as it's still U. S. No worries there.

But next summer would be a good opportunity to poke around and check things out. The only person I know in Alaska is a retired fisheries guy, so no help there. But the mining / exploration business is going great guns up here right now. R

I've got plenty of time and I think I'm "spoken for" for the next couple of years. Both my old manager and my former team lead who's moving into another group are scheming to snag me the next time I'm eligible to work at Intel. They have various rules for contractors. I can only work 12 months within an 18 month period. It has to do with co-employment law. Anyway, the rule has changed since the end of my last rotation in June. Now I can do 18 months in a 24 month period. I'm eligible to go back to Intel on Jan 1st 2012. If I get "away" credit for the month off traveling, I'd be booked up until July or August 2013. Throw in a month to sleep...

My current non-Intel project is scheduled to wrap up on Dec 31st, but it might snowball into something much larger. It might run for another year+, if things shifted around a bit. At the last management meeting, I was told "the project scope and budget may be increasing." I'm building a laboratory information management system from scratch. I'm interacting with the testing equipment, handling data flow across geographically separate systems, test validation with user approvals, blah, blah, blah... It's all about blood testing for newborns. Cool stuff. Complicated but cool.

All this talk about work, wore me out, the bacon came just in time. My day off at the golf course. Going to 87F today, but we get a cold front and maybe some rain tonight. Doubt it will cause the burn ban to be lifted tho.
