Because I'm a retired "old fart", there's plenty of time on my hands to search the i'net for lower prices on pretty much everything I buy.
Came across this outfit that's selling Yamalube motor oil for $4.79/qt. I've ordered 16 qts - 4 oil changes and avoided the $8 shipping charge. Guess I've saved $1.20 over retail per quart.

So tell me, why didn't you buy it in the gallon jugs and save .59/quart more? The gallons are 16.79ea. and you paid 19.16/gal buying it by the quart.

Or get the Rotella non-synthetic for $11.99 a gallon? Same JASO/MA spec that Yamaha calls for. Exceeds it, really. I use the 5-40 T-6 full synthetic, or sometimes the T-5 Semi-Synth which splits the difference in cost. Just bought a gallon of the T-6 for $21.99 and there is a $5 rebate going on too. (O'Rileys, but often that nasty WalMart is cheaper still)

I hate rebates 50/50 chance you get it back..

I just picked up a gallon of T-6 with a Purolator L14612 filter at Wally World today $25.00 out the door but then thats when they have T-6 in stock..

But that is a good Yamalube price.. ::008::

I know what you mean, but I've done this rebate before, and they did come thru. You can do it online or by mail. FWIW, the 14612 filters went from 2.5" to 3" a while back. I really like the Purolater filters, but now the longer ones that most of the brands have gone to for the same p/n's don't fit with the Rumbux skid plate. NAPA Gold 1365 does still fit. Not as much of a bargain though.

I was using the purolator L14610 oil filter that is the mack daddy on my Triumph 1050 Tiger but that was mounted on the bottom of the motor, the L4612 is like 1 3/4" long now.
I guess when I get a skid plate I will Modify it.

I found this insane Mega list Cross reference for the L4612>> http://www.oilfilter-crossreference.com/convert/Purolator/L14612

OldRider, Just a personal quirk - I find quarts easier to use and when I have 4/10 of a quart left I'd rather have the smaller container laying around than a gallon jug.

I buy a quart of Yamalube 10-40 at the dealership for $4.79. In the past I have bought Yamalube by the gallon. This time I had bought a quart as a backup while traveling so I bought three quarts when i got home.

I'm sure that as long as those specs are met, one oil is as good as another.
As long as my vehicles are under warranty I use the mfg oil and filters. The KLR gets Kawasaki oil, the Tundra gets Toyota oil (Shell) and the ST gets Yamaha oil as did the FJR. The 1942 Army Jeep gets Valvoline in it's new engine!
I just don't want to have to answer questions of improper grades/types of oil in case of some (unlikely) catastrophic engine failure. Had a problem with the clutch sticking on the VTX 1800, so ever since then I just go the suggested - and more expensive route - and use the mfg stuff. Just have to shop around for bargains.

And that's the great thing about oil, we all get to choose what makes us comfortable.
