I do not have my owners manual with me and need to pick some up at the dealer on the way home. He said it was only two types it could be but had no S10 info yet.

Can someone kindly tell me what I need in he Yamalube brand. Sorry to be such a pain in the butt. With gas at $4 bucks a gallon I dont want to make two special trips down there in my big V8 Tundra.

thanks

With the FJR, while it said any GL4/GL5 was acceptable, there was a pricey (and hard to find) Yamaha synthetic recommended in some service publications. I don't see anything in the S10 service info which mentions anything other than standard GL4/GL5 80W. Lots of controversy in the FJR community about whether using the expensive stuff was required or even better than the everyday Yamaha stuff, or car parts store stuff for that matter.

I've used the Mobil 1 synthetic 75W/90 stuff for years which is GL5 and more/less matches Yamaha's 80W viscosity recommendation. Readily available and not very expensive. Some like the wider-range 75W-140 stuff, but I tend to stick closer to original spec on stuff like this.

I don't think the GL4 or GL5 specs says whether synthetic or not, so can be either. Even the term "synthetic" today is not very well-defined. It's a marketing term more than a technical term.
