Really hoping someone can help with this.

Through no one's fault but by own, I neglected to notice that my rear brakes were severely worn.. rotor scored and all.
So I order new pads and a rear rotor, only to discover when I took things apart, that the worn pads had cut right into my rear brake caliper!

Now is where it gets interesting. I called my local dealer and they informed me that that part was on back order for several weeks, if not months, and would cost around 350.00.
I found both of these things to be unacceptable, so I found one online for a little over 200.00 and ordered it. A week goes by and I check my order, only to find out that the order was never filled. So now I go to another source online who claims to have one in stock, and I ordered that one.

I get a call today that that it's in stock.. in JAPAN! And it will take 4 to 6 weeks to ship!

It seems unfathomable that a production part, for a production motorcycle, it that hard to purchase.

Does anyone out there have any idea where I can get hold of a rear brake caliper for a 2012 S10? New or used. As long as it works I don't care. I just need to get back on the road!

You can see from the pic that my caliper is trashed.

I agree, I'd be more than happy to use that with new pads, certainly until a used one pops up.

How could that wear have occurred to the caliper? Did the rotor wear all the way through the steel backing of the brake pad? Seems more likely that the brake was assembled improperly with the rotor on the wrong side of the inboard pad?

??? Uhhhh, that doesn't look like an OE rotor....which would support Mr. Bertrand's theory. And, what kind of noise would that have made....for as long as that would have taken to cause that damage? WOW!

There are a few on the US ebay site too. Do a Search on XT1200 Brake Caliper and they will show up. I have an extra bracket, but not the caliper itself.

The pad probably had worn down so much it came out of the perch in which it was held . I,ve seen this happen in the auto field and i'am told it just started making noise !! You can get by for a while when the pads are new and thick until you get a nother. I would just make sure it has flat spots where it seats on the pad , file it or something but take as little off as possable. Good luck

Bingo! I'm pretty sure that's exactly what happened.

Thanks for the tip but I think it's worn down too far for that to work. Thought about trying to get a welder to build it back up and then file it flat, but that seems a little too hackish for some as vital as brakes.

Think I'll try for one of the used rotors on Ebay.

I appreciate the replies. The riders on this forum never fails to come through when you're in a pinch.!
