Like EricV said earlier the picture in the original post kinda looks like someone may have installed the wrong nut but unfortunately it’s not a very good picture of the nut. To me 92 ft pounds of torque seems crazy tight but I’m no engineer and I don’t usually use a torque wrench. I once used a torque wrench to install an oil drain plug, at the next oil change the plug seemed way way way to tight so I’ve been pretty reluctant to use a torque wrench since.

Yep, torque wrenches are way over used, misused and not neccessary 95% of the time.

I disagree with you on over used but not on the misused. There is a reason manufacturers have torque specs.

I agree........................but which part you ask?
Not sure how they are overused?
Misused, yes. Threads lubed when it shouldn't be, torque wrench not calibrated.

Re: Rear Axle - double failure - Final Update

Ends well - all well!.
Axle, nut and washer arrived from Japan, installed, wheel and all parts checked and tested, and bike is back home.
Plus--Yamaha covered everything under the YES warranty. So, other than the 2 weeks delay, all is well.
Thanks everyone for your input, advice, and moral support. Happy Thanksgiving!

Glad to hear you're back on the road. In my estimation, if the dealer had another Super T on the floor, he should have pulled those parts and put them on your bike.
