the silver capped thing is a vent, I believe.

The two bolts on the bottom and side in your first pic are what you need for the oil change

Yeah, the silver cap is a breather.

The lower bolt is the drain bolt.

The upper - towards rear - bolt is the filler.

Remove both and let it drain then replace the lower one, fill w/hypoid oil until it comes out of the filler bolt hole, then replace that bolt.

You never have to mess with the breather cap.

It is to keep it fresh from new, like the seals on bottles and cans - just smack it off with a hammer ;)

Page 7-16 of the Owners Manual has a good drawing of the bolts and everything else you need.

Thanks for all the replies - already had the crush washers, and went with Royal Purple 75W90 oil (because that was the only synthetic 75W90 on the shelf at Autozone) and changed it right out. It was as easy as everyone has said.
