Hi everybody and Happy Easter. I have a question and I hope somebody has the answer.. I know a rider that has a 2012 Tenere with low miles, sometimes when he goes for rides his ABS light will come on for no reason followed by the TC light coming on. sometimes they stay on only for a short period of time and sometimes they stay on a little longer. It seems that when he turns off the bike and re-starts it the light go off, sometimes returning after riding a short distance. The bike seems to run just fine while it is having this light show. Any help with this matter would be great. Thank You

I could really light up my lights on my 2012 with VERY aggressive riding. I notice my new one hardly lights up the TC at all.

But you might have him check the battery. I seem to remember someone reporting a similar issue on a suspect battery?

If my TC light ain't blinking, I'm probably in traffic.

Just a guess, but both TC and ABS rely on those sensors mounted on each wheel. They aren't the most robust doohickeys, and are subject to a harsh environment. The first thing to do is inspect the wire and sensor for even the slightest damage.

Whilst I was touring in Germany last year my abs light flickered on and off for a while then stayed on (don't recall the TC light coming on though)

Turned out to be a loose battery connection.

Hope this helps

I would be inclined to follow what Snake and Mike R suggested, loose terminal leads and or the ABS sensor wires at the wheels, if they have been routed incorrectly chafing would occur and expose wires.

Sounds like a battery issue to me too, certainly the first thing to check. Then check the ABS fuse is good & not corroded (Owner's Manual pages 6-30/1)

The ABS operation is explained in the OM, pages 3-5 & 3-28/9 for my 2014, may differ for a 2012. The iregular firing of the ABS light does lead one to suspect a wheel sensor fault as the next possibility to consider, so a check of the wiring to each sensor is needed. Then remove each sensor to check it's face is clean & undamaged. Sometimes the sensors & wiring get damaged/pulled/pinched at the tyre depot.

Occasionally we hear of tyre diameter changes confusing the system &, rarely, we find previous owners have fitted an ABS cut-out switch to disable the system during extended off-road riding, which could create issues if wired poorly. Failing this, it's probably a job for the local dealer to check out the system as there could be issues with the ABS pump - there are various threads on here regarding changing the brake fluid & inducing the ABS pump which may help, so search is your friend. Presumably the brakes work OK in every other sense & don't need to be pumped each morning, due to air in the system?

Good luck finding the gremlin. Keep us posted ............................ KEN
