Just received the aluminum Raid Toolbox from Jason Smith at ADVMotorrad.com. It will come in very handy, as I'll be using just the factory panniers (black) and a Pelican 2075 case (black) for 2-up jaunts throughout Latin America. The Pelican will sit behind a pass. backrest by CherDan. I know I'm farkling prematurely, as my 2014 bike is not due until Dec. 13th - Jan 15th, but I've got nothing else to do as I rehab from a lousy fall in Nicaragua where (long story short) I went into the R/SI ditch with only 2 vehicles on the road. Don't ask.

I think the Pelican will house mainly rain gear. Here is what the Raid toolbox carries (to my surprise):

the Slime $40 air pump with hose and connectors
Slime 8 oz. can of tire sealant
a $75 SS Leatherman multitool
Vessel 4-in-one ratchet screwdriver
Dynaplug Ultralite tire plug device
mini vice-grips
mini wire cutters
various cable ties

Going on 72 this Fall, my greatest fear is breaking down somewhere remote at about 4 PM, with no help in sight and my limited espanol. So if anyone has some suggestions (reasonable, please), I'd like to hear them. We want to carry just the two Yamaha inner bags into the hotel or B&B. Back a few months I was following the board and got the TraiL Tech switch and then tapped leads into a mini-fuse so I could do the CJM. Now that time and progress show the ECU flash to be superior, I will go that route. With news from Rasher and a few others (thank you), I am now planning to use the TT switch for a shutoff of the #4 FI fuse (after WOT, of course), if (or when) the hard start pops up. And just to be on the safe side, I'm ordering the larger Shorai battery (Amazon) for use from day one.
I know some will question my sanity, but having returned 5 years ago from a six year sail from Maine to Venezuela, with just the cat, my wife and self onboard, I learned to err, if at all, on the side of safety. That was the motto on the sea, and makes sense now, as I become less able. Thoughts?
Thanks for all the GOOD information on this board.
