One thing i really do not like and i cant believe BMW did this there is no tail light brake light! Yes they are intigrated into the (tiny) turn signals. Very stupid move considering all the suppsed electronics for your safety.

Agree. And “all of the safety” is out hanging off the back of the bike. Along with radar.

How many of those tail sections are going to get broken ? Not a smart move IMOP

Despite all the bad talk I believe worldwide BMW is the number 1 seller of adventure bikes and will probably continue to be for many more years. I have never owned a BMW motorcycle but have owned a few different pairs of their boots. The closest BMW dealer is 150+ miles from where I live is probably the main reason I never owned one.

Wait, what? The turn signals are the brake light? The taillight does not get brighter? I know the RT I rode had a 1-bulb brake light that never gave me much confidence in people seeing it.

To me it may become confusing as the first time I saw this from the front my first thought was Suzuki has done another slight change to their big Vstrom. Ooops its a beemer. LOL

I meant this one...putting it this way makes it easier to break during an offroad ride...and if you have to return back home it is illegal to ride without the front turn signal lights (depending on each country I guess)

there is no bad talk here and I guess judging a bike brand by the boots that they sell (which is made by another company but they just add BMW logo) might not be relevant

the tiny turn signals are the tail light and brake light along with them being turn signals! Just not enough in my book. I see these young yahoos on the crotch rockets and they take the mirrors off the turn signals off and put tiny brake lights and head lights on the things. They are just asking to get hit. I can't believe in this sue happy world a company would eliminate the brake light and tail light all together and have tiny turn signals handle it all. After all all four wheeled vehicles have added a third tail light to wake up drivers behind us!

I tried finding the extra brake light that was on the ST 1300; flashed three times and then went steady. I want to increase my brake light, not decrease. I don't know if it still is, but at one time, rear-ending at red lights was the #2 cause of motorcycle crashes.

Yeah, puting the turn signal in something designed to take an impact. o_O Equally important is that if you don't like the minimal coverage the hand guard provides, you can't change it. Unless you plan on wiring in some other signals. Just like Jeep. People frequently change out fenders and bumpers. Jeep has put the turn signal on the front fender, and the license plate holder on the rear bumper. No good purpose to it. Just increases the difficulties, and cost, to the consumer.

Kinda sad, the Tiger has the traditional brake light, and the turn signals also are used as additional brake lights.

I just can't imagine going off road, even if just challenging gravel, and not worrying about dropping it which would break so many expensive bits. The warnings in the mirror$ for cars in the adjacent lane, the turn signal$ in the hand guards, the titanium exhau$$$t can, etc...

Ive had opportunity's too ride several GS 1250's... It's actually a great bike. And in many ways I felt it was immediately better than the Super Tenere. I would have to agree for the most part on how most/many of there customers use the bike. For touring, and some light off road and great all around bike, it's fantastic. The motor is better than the Tenere in many ways and the front end of the bike feels much better over all that then the Super Tenere (both being stock)... Its a great bike...
My mechanical background (brain) cant get past the niggle issues they have had over the years, and could have remedied long ago. Same with the KTM..... Im not referring to the one in a million issue... Im referring to the elephant in the room 'obvious' issue both brands have had for years... Hopefully BMW will address these issues with the new bike and they are just as reliable as the Japanese bikes.......................

Here is a question I dont know...... I have read that the new BMW is 'requesting' drive shaft replacement after 80K Km........ Has anyone EVER seen a replacement request anywhere for the Super Tenere ? Im not aware of Yamaha ever printing that suggestions?

Im sure the new bike is a fantastic bike, depending on how want to use the bike, Im sure its great ! Every rider has different needs and wants. I like and dont like a thousand things about all motorcycles... And after 40 years of riding, and the opportunity to ride a zillion different bikes it all boils down to how someone might want to use the bike......

IMOP, if you're sitting on ANY motorcycle, and your in good health enjoying yourself, that is ALL that counts.

Side story: A few weeks ago, I ran up to Arkansas to ride trails and camp on the Super Tenere. Anyone that has ridden the Pig Trail at the corner of I-40 knows about the big gas station. I ran into a gentleman on a trike along with his son, and grandson. The gentleman on the trike was 83-84 I believe he said. He really wanted to talk with me and we spoke for probably 15-20 minutes. As he continued to speak I reminded myself how great it was that he is still able to enjoy something that we all do. He took such pride in knowing his current abilities and still wanting to ride at his age. Sometimes I'm touched and get a bit emotional when I know it's genuine. He didnt know, I held it in, but I knew he is living the end of his life doing what he has always loved. He was so excited and so kind. And wanted to know about my bike and my friends, and was excited to tell me about his bike. Like we all do !
My friends, and this gentleman family were standing basically next to us, but no one stepped in the conversation, no one interrupted, no one started a different topic... For a few minutes it was a like tunnel of just he and I..... Kind of strange really..... I thanked him for the time and conversation. He was so tickled that a "young man" (cough-cough) was talking to him about 'cool' motorcycles.......
My friends and I walked back out of the parking space and back up on the sidewalk, and I think we all basically said the same thing at the same time in unison. "I hope to be riding at that age, I hope to still have that passion"...... Don't we all feel that way ?
Man...... Motorcycles brings out that community and passion. What a wonderful activity we have all found in our life, to share with friends and family. Honestly, who cares what size, brand, color, CC, headlight, Etc....... Deep down we all have the love and passion for these two wheel machines.........
I felt lucky to have that conversation with that gentleman....... Made an impression on me.................

I love the community, I love all motorcycles as a whole......

You folks be real safe out on the road, so you one day can have a conversation out in a parking lot when your 85 sitting on your motorcycle....

LOVE IT !

Agree....... Ive been doing homework... There is another similar "fancy" brand that is like the GS/GSA that has wiz-bang mirrors..... Ive check on these "crazy" priced parts..... This has blind spot light like the new GS.... The whole assembly was $125.00 (100% retail) I believe he said... Some of the bits on the sides that might break or get damaged are less than $50. Just wait till you see the photos of me jumping a Rolls-Royce ! I might have to post a warning, so no one has a stroke............ LOL

And the Super Tenere mirrors are $55 with no electronics or fancy stuff.... Yes, it's twice the price, but we are talking $100 bucks for a mirror, not $400-500-800 bucks.... LOL Ive never replaced a mirror in my life due to a crash or lay over..... Im not overly concerned... If I EVER have to replace a broken mirror on my bike, that is probably the least of my concerns... The bike is probably in three pieces after the accident...

Jokes aside, I understand... I think many of these brands are coming around to the idea if they want more people to buy there products they have to offer parts at a semi-normal price... Not to many years ago you would go try and buy a normal part and you would have thought you were ordering some special Moto GP hand made race part..... for the most part those days are mostly gone....

But with the Tenere, aftermarket mirrors can be mounted for less. Many here have replaced them just 'cuz they didn't like them. With the GS, those are the only legitimate replacements.

But I don't think I can agree that the manufacturers are trying to offer parts at reasonable prices. And I don't know how that mirror assembly was only $125. The mirrors on the RT were at least that much, 10 years ago, and only contained the mirror and signal.
