Question regarding SW-Motech Pannier Racks

I have a set of 45L Micatech panniers and love them on my KLR. I use the SW-Motech racks to attach them to my KLR.

My question is: Can I reuse the SW-Motech racks on my new Super Ten? Are the connection points pretty much in the same place? Looking at Twisted throttle and SW-Motech sites, they look "the same" to me. Is it possible I can just swap the racks onto my new bike?

For the record, I have the KLR in the garage and the Super Tenere is still at the dealership since it's too cold to get it home. I want to have my ducks in a row come spring and either have the new racks ordered or the other racks ready to put on.

Highly unlikely, KC. The racks are custom designed for each bike to attach to, in this case, four specific points on the bike. I would think it highly unlikely to impossible that these points are identical in a three dimensional sense .... front to back, laterally, etc. Plus as I recall, a couple of attachments were added to the bike that projected one way or the other. That is why you have to order bike specific racks. But I guess it is possible. R

You will not be able to use the same SW Motech racks on your KLR/Tenere.............I own a 2009 KLR650 and a Superr Tenere with SW Motech racks-----------they are different. The KLR is wider on the right side and the S10 on the left due to the exhaust system on each bike.

BTW......sold my trusty and oft-travelled E36 Givi bags and will be ordering new Micatech V2 37 liter bags in the next month since they fit right on the SW Motech racks with the correct mount kit.

Excellent point, and pretty much answers my question. After reading it, I remember telling my father the same thing last week, and had completely forgotten about it in my excitement. Thnaks both of you for the timely answers and I'll get on the horn with TT to get new ones ordered. I'll at least save the cost of locks and attachments.

Just to confirm with 100% certainty - There are no SW-MOTECH racks that are interchangable between bike models. The geometry is different on every bike. There are a few models where it is a matter of "livery" like the Ninja 650 and the ER6-n and ER6-f We work closely with SW-MOTECH and in fact, designed the KLR side carriers for SW-MOTECH in our Rhode Island facility. I will say it again - they will not work on the Super Ten.

Sorry - Kev
