Can anyone think of any compelling reason for me to hang onto the stock pipe, now that I have replaced it with an Akrapovic? I suppose the only consideration might be if I eventually sell or trade in the Super Ten, I could put the stock pipe back on and sell the Akra separately, but I don't see that happening anytime soon, and in the meantime it will take up space in my already cluttered garage. What have others with aftermarket silencers done with your OEM pipe?

Thanks,

Bruce

Some guys despise aftermarket pipes so if you keep the stock it could be the difference in a sale. I save all OEM parts some guys are funny like that.

Save the pipe stock pipe, put it up in the attic. One day, many years from now, you will stumble across it and say, what bike did that come come from? Just like I do. ::)

Good point, although I rarely sell my vehicles privately. I usually trade them in. Less bang for the buck I know, but I really hate putting a vehicle up for sale privately and going through the hassle of dealing with prospective buyers and tire kickers. :)

Hang on to it if you're going to trade in.
the akro will get you good second hand value. Put stocker back on.

I hacked up my stocker, so I could use it with a home made staintune slip on.

my last set of staintunes (dl1000) were close to 1000 new. I used them for close to 50km, and sold them on for 600.

Already good advice.

I hang on to all the stock parts and when selling / trading a bike, return it to basically stock. You'll end up with more $$$ in the long run by selling the aftermarket pieces separately or transferring them to the "new" ride.

My last set of Staintunes (ST1300) were purchase used for about $750. 6 years and 50K miles later, I sold them for about $700. The perfect stock pipes, (removed when the bike was brand new) made the bike look good on trade in.

You guys have convinced me to find room in my garage for the OEM parts. Thanks for all the input!

Cheers,

Uh, oh... ???

Now you got the first symptoms of what can be become a terrible affliction. First a stock pipe... Next it'll be a stock windscreen... Then your old stock shock when you put on an aftermarket one... Then when it gets really, really bad you'll be saving old tires where you say "Well, they've got at least another 300 miles in 'em, so I better save 'em, just in case..." Pretty soon it's old drain bolt washers, busted spokes because you might be able to make some kind of tool out of 'em, old brake pads that have just a *little* material on them (another "just in case" item), etc., etc., etc.

You know you're well and truly lost when you're saving all sorts of busted parts, rusted bolts, old o-rings you've replaced, etc.

The disease is terminal when you clean out your garage or shop one day and find all sorts of parts and pieces where you go "Now what the hell is that, and what did it come off of... And why did I friggin' save it?" ::025::

That is funny, Dallara! My stock windscreen is already safely ensconced in my garage, now joined by my OEM exhaust. And so it begins.... :D
