If I were to buy a new Tenere today, THAT would be my first upgrade.

Took me a while, 3.5 years ago, to figure out how much the OEM sweep on the bars was responsible for fatigue on loooong days.
Once that sweep was addresses, and I consider it extreme sweep now, looong days are what this bike is great at. :)

Those look really nice too. Great job.

Hi,
I have the same bars. I never fitted them to my previous bike so I'd like to fit them to my 2012 S10. Was it easy to retro fit them to your bike. I.e getting the wireing out of the bars ( I believe the switchgear wireing is rooted that way ).
Thanks.

No issue mounting at all with stock lines but you will need to find a way to thread the ends for the bar end to bolt up. I used a nut that would barely fit in the end of the handle bar it needed to be hammered in with a mallet. You can also use some type of spanner bolt you can purchase for dirtbike bar ends. I was cheap and used some 20 cent nuts but they have never came loose on me after 25,000 miles. I also drilled the handlebar where the switches mount around the handlebar so that the switch will not rotate. if you do not do this you will need to file or dremmel off the little pin on the switch housing. Just make sure you position the bars where youwant them prior to drilling so they are at the correct angle you like.

After much research, trial and error, I made the same mod to my '13 with the same bar and the end result was definitely worth it. The comfort on long days is greatly improved by eliminating the extreme sweep of the stock bars.

pgeller: If you want to remove the ProTaper logos and the Raptor logo between the bar clamps, take a clean rag and lacquer thinner and they wipe right off. You won't harm the finish on the bar, as it's powdercoated while the graphics are a simple, solvent based screen printed image. Be careful not to remove the indexing marks for bar alignment in the clamps.

I opted for the ProTaper ATV High bend. It's higher than stock, but not as high as the Raptor, and has a milder sweep. As expected, it was an easy install with no cable length problems. I drilled the bar in order to interface with the control's plastic anti-rotation pins, and installed a bar-end insert kit (G2 Ergonomics Nylon Handguard Bar End Mount), which required that the inside of the bar be threaded with a tap. Once threaded, nylon inserts are screwed into the bar, and the provided screws secure the original equipment bar-ends into the newly installed inserts.

What a huge improvement! Before the swap, the severe sweep gave me a terrible case of tennis elbow, and I had reached the point where I couldn't stand to ride anymore. After the new bars, the tennis elbow quickly went away.

Thanks to BarkSlayer for the laquer thinner tip. The ATV High graphic has always annoyed me, so I'm off the garage to make that go away.

There's no wiring inside. I used the G2 nylon inserts to have bar-end mounting holes; the kit comes with a tap. You'll be glad you changed them!

Anyone mount any aftermarket hand guards to the Pro-taper raptors? Tried the bark buster storms for the tenere bars (10-13) and they did not work. I here there is a 2014 version that just came out.

If it's a matter of the taper not matching up, there's a manufacturer in Lansing, Michigan called Enduro Engineering that makes a full line of machined billet aluminum bits for the off-road/enduro market. They have an excellent tapered bar clamp (the Evolution clamp) that will fit ProTaper bars perfectly. You can position the clamp on the bar to accommodate the hand guard of your choice. It's their PN 50-114S for natural aluminum and PN 50-114B for black anodized aluminum. Here's the link https://shop.enduroeng.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=50-114S

ProTaper is the company. Contour is the product line with the inch and an eighth diameter at the clamps tapering to one inch at the grips. Raptor is the name of the product/bend. Nothing specific for the Super Tenere. If you don't need the added height of the Raptor, but want the change in sweep that ProTaper offers, other Contour bars will work as well. There is a table here somewhere of most of the bars and their various bends, including the OEM bars.

Are you sure it is one and one eight tapering to one inch, shouldn't be 1-1/8 " to 7/8" ?

Does anyone know if the stock bars were changed for the 2014/2015 models? I am wondering if the ProTaper Raptor might be good option for my 2014 ES.
