Proper Strap Down for a trailer?

Anyone have any advice on the best way to strap a Tenere down in a Uhaul trailer?


I've never moved a bike before, so pictures if you have them would be awesome!

I have rented their Motorcycle trailer a few times and it works great for the S10. I got 2 rachett type motorcycle tie downs that have loops at the bike side. They also had spring loaded hooks so even if they come a bit loose they can't pop off. Cycle Gear has them. I loop them around the bottom bracket of the triple tree. Then the other end goes to the tie downs on the trailer. Have the kickstand up and rachett the front down. Then I have a generic start that I loop through the rear tire and to each back corner. Works great, rock solid!

I've shamefully trailer'd my Big Pig for about a month. All over the country. In all kinds of road conditions.

The front was strapped down with very typical 2-point motorcycle tie-downs with maybe half the front fork travel compressed. The front wheel was rolled into a cheap Harbor Freight chock that was NOT bolted down. By itself, that would NOT be nearly secure enough for a bouncy ride. But when I anchored the rear down with a much wider spread, with the intention of the rear not hopping left or right, the whole package road extremely secure.

My advice is to always put two sets of tie downs on the front. I've seen the damage one broken tie down can do more than once. The second set of tie downs can be a cheap set, just don't put all your eggs in one basket.

I haul mine two ways, first and the most is in the toy hauler using Pitbull restraints with no tie down crap.


Or on my Kendon two rail trailer when I need to take it in for service which is rare. ;D


I have never attempted to put it in the back of my truck however it would work I'm sure. Truck has a 6.5' bed and with tailgate down it would go. Problem is the Tenere is huge and getting the gate low enough is not worth it when I own a trailer.

Yep, she's a Beast to load in a pickup.

First you need something to bump her up against.



Then a ramp that can support 1000lbs solidly.



The only requirement left is full commitment! Don't stop until she pegs the chock.

A high set and a low set, front and rear. The lower straps are backup and also keep the bottom of the bike from sliding out sideways. The suspension is compressed just enough to not bounce when the truck hits bumps and the bike is in first gear.
The truck is a Nissan Frontier with the 6.1 ft bed, plain Jane 2WD. The back wheel of the bike is still on the bed of the truck and there is no weight on the tailgate.

I have a 6x12 box trailer my ST has spent some time in (I'm glad its enclosed, so no one can see!). I have a wheel chock setup, and I found that strapping to the engine guards works well.
