Gents--

Begging the indulgence of those smarter than me (which pretty much covers everyone, I think).

Hypothetically...... How do you think this works out as a fair price for a bike?

2014 S-10, NON-ES, Blue
~1500 miles, Excellent condition
48 month YES extended warranty

AltRider crashbars and skidpate
Bumont 45L bags, 41L topcase, toolbox, passenger pad
Cee Bailey 20" windshield
Yamaha winglets
Yamaha heated grips
TechSpec tank pads
Fender extender

Priced at $13,900.

I'd have to do a "fly-and-ride" and put about 1400 miles on it to get it home.

Maybe a scootch to high? Just right?

If high, what would constitute fair and reasonable to both parties?

I tried looking up archival bikes in the For Sale section, but it's really a bit like comparing antelopes to cantaloupes with all the different varieties of farkles.

Thanks!

In my humble opinion, and I own a 2014 Tenere ES, I think that bike maybe a tad high. My rational is as follows; I have even more parts on my bike than this gentleman, plus the ES package, and I would be asking about that price if I sold. I would try and talk him down about a grand and then I would say that is a good deal. Good luck either way with whatever you purchase. ::022::

Digging through the Classifieds here and on ADV, and looking at CL and eBay, I kind of came up with the same number.

Because, you know, what else is there to do at 3 in the morning?

Haven't contacted him yet, need to mull that over for a bit. One thing I've noticed is that those side bags are BIG!

Agree with others, about $1K or so north of where it should be. Need to also factor in what it is going to cost you to go get it.

As the bike gains in popularity the resale is doing better.
You can spend hours looking for a better buy, or make an offer, which you should always do and ride it home :)

So if you picked up a new 2014/15 for about $11,000 and
<$250 for a skid plate
<$250 for bars

Optional:
<$200 for a windshield - IF you think you need one.
<$200 for a Seat Concept seat kit

You're in under $12k on the current generation bike and watching for a set of luggage.

Seems high, but take one for the team and keep the resale values up for those of us with Gen2 bikes by buying it at that price! :D

Checkrecks is absolutely right on this one. When I bought my bike, the 2014 just came out in California. Basically, I took a hit on the price, but wanted the Matte Grey. There are some bargain basement prices out there on 14 and 15's. Also, don't worry about the pannier size so much. I have large panniers and get around fine in California.

This one is supposed to be the Yamaha Reps bike for the area. It looks pretty nice and the price is cheaper than yours.

Unfortunately it's in Watkins Glen NY. I would be happy to pick you up in Rochester and take you down for a beer!

Yup, I think you're right.

I'll pass on this one and keep looking for a '15 ES I guess.

Worst case, I wait until winter and pick one up cheap then.

I had a Gen 1 2012 that got me to Alaska and back in the summer of 2012. After that trip I traded it in for a Goldwing cause the wife wanted something more comfortable to ride on with me. Well she's over riding so now I'm looking to get back into a Super T. I'm leaning towards a new 2015 ES myself if I can find the right deal. I've talked to a few dealers and most around southeast, central Texas, and Louisana are asking around 15k out the door on a 2015 ES. Seems like a decent price, but I'm not sure what others are seeing around their areas.

Here are a couple of used I've come across in my search over the last few days. One of them appears to be a bike that was listed on these forums for a bit. This dealer is about 30 minuets south of Hobby airport if you want to do a fly and ride.

I'm interested in what you deiced on... I read though most of your post on the Gen 1 vs. Gen 2 Oil or water BMW. After messing around with a KTM 1190 for a year I've come to the conclusion the Yamaha is where it's at for me.

Kinda the same for me after my trip to Alaska in 2012, except I ended up getting a FJR again ( which I had before the Gen 1 Tenere). Fast forward about 3 years and I'm back on a Gen 2 Tenere and loving it!!!!!

So. Just to make the variables a little more interesting: The bike's price has been dropped to $13.7k.

Here's my breakdown of the costs for what he's done to the bike (best guess/research on my part):

- Alt Rider crashbars: $438
- Alt Rider skidplate: $406
- Bumot 45L bags: $1079
- Bumont 41L topcase: $380
- Bumont mounting plate: $100
- Bumont toolbox: $105
- Bumont passenger pad: ~$100?
- Cee Bailey's 20" windshield: $130
- Yamaha winglets: $90
- Yamaha heated grips: $200
- Techspec tank pads: $65
- Fender extender: $35
- 2 Powerlet outlets (in place of factory cigarette lighter outlet): ~$60?
- 48 month Yamaha YES extended warranty - you're covered until October of 2020: ~$500
- Shipping charges (est.): $200
Total (approximate): ~$3888

And now for the REALLY fun variable-- I found a new-old-stock Candy Red '15 ES for $13.2k OTD.

The used bike requires a 20 hr/1300 mile fly-and-ride, and the new bike would require a 12 hr/800 mile fly-and-ride.

My cost to get to either bike? Zero, so that's a wash either way.

So. Let's say that the non-ES bike's price is solid at $13.7. I would most likely downsize the bags to 40/36L's, and I'd get rid of the top case and post them here on the forum-- the rest of the farkles, I like and will most likely end up more or less doing on the new bike.

And on the other hand, the new bike is pristine with no farkles. But, it DOES have the ES suspension.

So. Two questions:

1. Is the ES worth the upcharge? I see my riding on this new toy as long range on highways and paved roads, dirt roads, and jeep/fire trails to go camping up by mountain lakes. Additionally, I'll commute to the airport and back with a flight bag and a suitcase on the back. I can see myself respringing the rear shock, but I honestly don't know that I'd go through the effort of Ohlins on the front and rear on the non-ES bike. Maybe, but probably not.

2. If your choices are the blue non-ES for $13.7 or the pristine (still in the crate) Red ES for $13.2, WHAT WOULD **YOU** DO?

Obviously, I need to make a decision soon.

Thanks all!

Get the new ES.

I have 14 ES, wife rides 15 non-ES. Hers rides like a lumber wagon compared to mine. She wanted the non-ES because of the silver color.
I guess I'm leaning that way, depending approval from the Minister of War and Finance. However, she just had major surgery today and is in a drug-induced sleep in the hospital, so she's not answering anything for a day or two. (But, NO CANCER! So, Yay! Looking for a bike has been my way of escaping the stress for the past month or so. It's been tough.)

I do like the blue bike, and if it was an ES I'd definitely go that direction. Lots of very nice things on that bike. I might crib a few of the ideas in fact.

Red ES. Definitely the Red ES. I hope that your wife comes through her recovery with excellent results. Cancer Sucks! I am a survivor.

2015 ES 13.2k OTD? That's a killer deal if what my contact at a dealer here in the Houston area told me is true and that invoice price on the 2015 is 13.5k. Does this dealer who's quoting 13.2k have more than one? If I were making the choice based on the info you have I would do the ES and farkles myself. Might be more expensive that way, but putting farkles on is part of the fun in owing one of these machines!
