pothole from hell

Hit the pothole from hell last weekend courtesy of New York State. The rim bent moderately but not enough to leak air and I made it home without vibration or anything odd. (thank god this is such a tough bike, anything else and I think my wife and I could have fallen off.)
Local dealer doesnt want to fix it, suggesting to buy another wheel big suprise. I figure if bike is fine without repair, it’ll be more than fine with it. Any suggestions for New York City are shop that can do a decent job?

thanks in advance!

Once again, I don't know shit from Shinola, but if these wheels are steel, couldn't a decent wheel shop straighten it? (I've had a steel Jeep wheel straightened) And being in NYC, there should be no shortage of shops. But . . . . if they're aluminum, I think it's done for.

I did pretty much the same to my ST13 wheel. Nobody would even attempt to repair it, but it was aluminum. It was turned into a retirement "present".

In GOOGLE enter: motorcycle rim repair Long Island:
Seems like they have very good reviews but no mention of motorcycle rim repair in those reviews.
Worth a call as perhaps they can steer you in the right direction if they do not do that service for a m/c rim.
Just curious, where did you end up getting that damage, out on LI or in the boroughs?

I was riding around Bear Mt. The pot hole was in the hashed triangle by a ramp merge, so technically I shouldn't have meandered there, just merged too early and should have been more careful. But first dinged rim in 50k miles of riding so not too shabby.
If you havent been up to the 7 lakes drive yet, its a must man!

I would not fix it either, if something were to happen after because of the wheel my shop could be held liable, so no not a big surprise.
This falls in the category of no do's, kinda like welding the frame, yes can be done but no we don't weld frames. Maybe the backyard behind the house greaser will doit though.

I would simply replace the rim and relace it.

The Rickey Racer car crowd bends their wheels all the time, so you can find wheel repair places with a simple Google Map search.

Are our wheels actually designed to bend rather than shatter or break ?

I would lace up a new rim if it was mine.

I thought our wheels were supposed to be stronger with spokes. Which lead me to believe they were steel. 'Cuz, if they're aluminum, get rid of them since spokes can come loose.

They are aluminum. I've had this happen on my dirt bikes numerous times. A few good whacks with a dead blow hammer or a brass hammer will get it much closer to where it's supposed to be. I've seen people who know what they are doing get them almost perfect. Do not use a vise or a press, it will crack the rim.

I would have zero issues riding with it once it gets straightened out a bit as long as it's inspected for cracks. Carry a front tube, start looking for a replacement, but keep riding.

I find it very strange that the rims on my Super T are thinner and weaker looking than what is on my YZ 250 or my IT 200. This is a heavy bike. You would think the rims would be a bit beefier. I have fixed bent and dented dirt bike wheels but hey we are just goofing off in the woods. I would be leery of trying to fix the rim on my Super T that way. I have read about places fixing even cast wheels that are bent. Not sure how and it was just articles I have read so no real evidence that they are good fixes. I have seen where sport bike frames have been fixed. the shop says when they are done with the frames they will have a much tighter tolerance's than new frames.
