If you are never going to go off the pavement the multistrada or the new tiger 1200 are good sport adventure bikes, just hit all the demo day, I go every year to as many as I can even if I never will by that type of bike. The BMW rides are the best they take you on a 1 to 2 hour ride. I can tell you from experience ride before you buy.

I plan on hitting some unpaved terrain in my travels. I have a test ride of the Tenere after work today.

Ok, so I got to take a new Tenere out for a short ride and here is what I found in no particular order. With the seat in the high position, and me scooting back on to the wider part of the seat, I am quite comfortable. That is great for riding around but when I came to a stop, even with my long legs, it's an odd stretch to the ground since the seat is quite wide there. It's really a non issue, just an observation and easily fixed by having the habit of sliding forward just a bit when coming to a stop. I was shocked at how well the little fairing managed wind, no buffeting and no back pressure at any speed I went (up to about 75mph) Coming from my FJR it's obviously low on power but, I never felt like there wasn't more than enough. Maybe it's me but you either have to sit up on the seat or back all the way, otherwise there is a slant that is odd in the middle? Love the throttle, especially when compared to my '07 FJR which has way to much of an on/off feel to it, very smooth. Would need a larger brake pedal, I missed the tiny excuse for a pedal a couple times.

All that being said, no bike is 100% perfect and we make adjustments to get them just right for us, I want it!

Did you try the sport mode? How does that compare to the fjr? As far as the seat it seems that most people don't like it no matter what you do to it. You can make it better by doing the mod, but everyone is different . The small brake pedal in my opinion is intentional. With the linked braking you will still wear out the rear brakes before the front. They work really well, you just have to trust them.

I did but, there really is no comparison, the FJR just makes more hp and torque everywhere. They are completely different bikes, with different approaches to a similar mission (covering a lot of distance) and I am ok with that. If I can sort out the seat issue, this will likely be my next bike. I really like everything else about it, I like Yamaha in general, lots of dealers most everywhere you go, etc.

The seat is an easy fix. Just search seat mod, it's a known issue. Many love the stock with the mod.

If that does not work for you another cost effective alternative is the Seat Concepts replacement foam and cover. It eliminated the slope and worked better for me with the higher density foam. HTH
