Hey S10 Experts,
Issue with my ’12 Super Ten with 84K miles.
Just finished a valve check and upon restart attempt I get nothing….cranks strong but no start and I’ve got a “60” error on the dash (Throttle body).
Using my Yam shop manual, I’ve checked ohm readings on everything I can (Stepper motor, TPS and other items and all good, fuses good, battery fully charge, good connections etc).
One test is to use 2 “C” batteries (1.5v ea) to apply 3 volts to the stepper motor connection…. Butterflies do open just a little and then close when I switch the pos/neg connections. Should they fully open?
Also, with key ON and with engine cranking, should the throttle butterflies open when I open the throttle? Mine are not doing anything during engine cranking and I’m getting nothing more than a few pops from the engine… even with starting fluid. I’m really out of answers on this and bike ran fine before this.
Regards,
Mr. BR

Probably have one of the plugs plugged into the wrong location... It's easy to do, and happens often, if you didnt mark them, go back and double check they are in the correct location.... I bet that is your issue.....

Eye-ball everything else, just incase.....

0) The butterflies do not respond to the hand throttle until it starts…
1) with the key off, the butterflies are closed.
2) with the key on, the butterflies open and close and remain slightly open for starting, then once the engine is started, they remain completely closed for idling.
3) error 60 is related to the YCC-T... but in the case that you disassembled, it would be closer to the throttle position sensor (both, left (Hand), right (electric motor)….
4)Someone once told that he had connected the plugs wrong (the injector ones, he placed them on the coils)…..

I am going to blow a @#$#!#@! gasket if I find that is the issue... (plugged in wrong).
I just ran out to the garage and plugged in the TBs and I now see the 2 prong plug for the TB stepper motor is essentially the same as the plugs for the spark plugs coils.
Ugh... AND, when with key ON, the butterflies move and stay slightly open... I don't think it did that before....likely indicating I had it plugged in wrong (and the "60" error is gone).
My valve cover is off so I can't light the fires but I feel like such a dipshi* now... I was SURE I checked all of this before.
Thanks for the input and I'll report back again later.... :-(

Opening and leaving the butterflies slightly open is part of the initial check of the ECU, when you turn on the ignition and before starting...
The coils are also checked (the + is always hot with the key on), and if the coil is good, that + returns to the ecu through the - coil cable, and thus the ecu knows that the coil is good.
If it (+) does not return through the negative, the coil is burnt or unplugged (an error appears)...and to trigger the spark, the ecu sends the negative to mass (chassis)

Hey, welcome to the dipshi* club. We all do it. I found that when doing intricate stuff I really need to focus so I am not a well known member of said club. Last year I had around four 20 somethings in my drive visiting with my kids. I had my CBR 1100XX Super Black Bird with DanMoto pipes on the lift. I forget what I was doing but I wanted to start it up to test it. It started and then proceeded to roar out the open garage door I quickly turned the key off... I had a strap on the throttle grip and it headed quickly to the red line. Whew! We all learn best by fixing our own mess. Bet you'll never do that again!

Hey Team,
First, a big Thank You to Tabasco, JIq1969 and TenereGuy for their input on my issue… YES, I had the harness plugs switched (TB Stepper vs Ignition coil for #2 cyl).
I had checked these previously but I did not SEE the problem… part of this was assuming these components would have unique connectors to prevent this (the TB Stepper connector has yellow tape on it).
After checking everything I could, I even pulled the valve cover again to recheck the cam timing (yup, ok) and was ready to order a set of used TBs from Ebay.
Anyway, after correcting the issue, with the Key ON, the “60” error is now gone and the butterflies do their small pre-start movement which was not happening before.
First attempt and she fired up as normal and she sounds good. TB synch next and then final assembly… bike has been apart since Thanksgiving (holidays, travel, not in the mood etc).
This has been a nice learning experience for me and even the 2nd valve cover install was easier (put gasket on head, THEN install cover).
Thanks again and Happy New Year.
