So I added a Yoshi slip on, sounds great and saved some pounds. But I get popping on decelling ? Not sure it's lean, heard there Rich running. Another Who has this issue ?
Was thinking of putting the OEM can back on and seeing if there is a differance.

I get some popping on decel with my Leo Vince - better flowing exhaust tends to do that I guess. ;D

the snap popple crack is one of the main reasons i put exhausts on motors...

it isn't a matter of the ecu being tuned too rich, but rather you can now hear those pops more clearly... the stock muffler still pops, but is very good at muffling the sounds...

Yosh with dB killer removed here, before my reflash it was popping & crackling like crazy on decel... especially around 3000 RPM, since the injectors have been turned on in deceleration in the tune, that has greatly tamed it, now is more like a deep burbling...

My 2014 with stock exhaust pops on decel as well, but it pops more on regular than high octane. And since the fuel economy is significant on 91/94, I just run high octane gas now, so it does not pop than much.

Hmmm interesting read...

Back in the day, lots of sharp pops or cracks meant a too lean condition which could lead to burnt valves. So it meant re-jectting or getting a PC for EFI was necessary. A burbling was a rich condition which wasn't as much as concern...

Was wondering what the valves looked like on one that has had the "cracks". Do they look burnt?
Has someone with the "popping" without an ECU mod or Power Commander checked to see how the fuel is burning?

Or are these "pops" and "cracks" harmless based on examination of the engine rather than "I've never had any issues so far"?

Just curious...

I recall a post where someone found their exhaust header pipe was loose at the cylinder head...that could cause excess popping.
Do these bikes have a secondary air injection system? It's popular with some Triumph guys to block off this to reduce popping.
Me, I love it...my Speed Triple sounds fantastic on decal...and my 14 Super Tenere with stock exhaust has a nice, if muted, pop to it too.

I was told to use some high heat gasket paste on the header flange where it mounts to the exhaust port. It helped a little.

I guess the better question for the high mileage bikes is "Has anyone had a burnt valve on a Tenere?" I don't remember seeing anyone here mention that. Mine has around 32,500 and had my Leo Vince on it for most of it's life with no Power Commander or mixture adjusting mechanism, just an ECU Flash. I know it's not as high mileage as some of the road warriors here, but it is what it is. :)

Read every post ever posted here.
Well, almost, I would say.
Nope, never heard of a burnt valve.
A few have had excessive carbon buildup. And sadly, due to 2 or 3 fail cam chain tentioners, a few bent valves.
But none burnt.
