Where do we find them?
What's their proper name?
Who the f**K ever thought they'd be a good idea?!

I broke one recently and replaced them with metal ones I found at Ace Hardware. 5 mm, I believe.sportsguy said:Where do we find them?

That's my back up plan.fredz43 said:I broke one recently and replaced them with metal ones I found at Ace Hardware. 5 mm, I believe.
Not the same thing HHH - appreciate the link, but those ARE well nuts with metal bolts for the windshield. I need the PLASTIC screws for the side wind deflectors.HHH said:
I realized you were talking about the plastic ones after I posted.sportsguy said:Not the same thing HHH - appreciate the link, but those ARE well nuts with metal bolts for the windshield. I need the PLASTIC screws for the side wind deflectors.
Metal is an easy solution here, and one I may end up with in the end, but I'm seeking the OEM plastic pieces.
That link shows that you bought new SAE wellnuts in 10-24 size and stainless screws to go in them, correct? Did you see any metric plastic screws at Lowes?PowersUSA said:White nylon screws are easy to come by at most hardware stores. Then you dress them up black like I did here : http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=12465.msg200669#msg200669 .
The plastic screws are a "fuse". Theory is, if you flex the wing too hard, the screw will break rather than the wing. It's cheaper to replace the screws than the wings. Finding said plastic screws is not so easy. I have a metal screw replacement for one of mine. At the wing didn't break.sportsguy said:Where do we find them?

I'm going to PM you HHH - I'll take those pesky plastics off you hands.HHH said:I realized you were talking about the plastic ones after I posted.
In that case your best bet is the Yamaha dealer.
I ditched the plastic ones before even installing them as I had the Allen metal ones sitting at home, so if you want, I can send you all six plastic ones I have here, just let me know if you want them.
That was my fear when I bought my headlight protector, if something like the snap rubber goes bad, not much left to do...oh well, seems like all OEM accessories are aside from the OEM parts.sportsguy said:I'm going to PM you HHH - I'll take those pesky plastics off you hands.
Checked with the dealer today - wouldn't you know it, they can't find a part number for them as it's part of an accessory, not part of the parts list for the bike itself, so...
They've email Yamaha to ask Whassup and they'll hit me on Tuesday with an update.
Appreciate the input and ideas gang.
