Do any of you folks have Pilot Road 3's? I am wondering what kind of mileage the rear is good for. I'm planning a 5,000 mile trip in June and would like a tire that I'm confident can take me from here to there and back. I've got about 6500 on my original Tourance EXPs and have really liked them. But, given the all-street oriented nature of the trip, and my experience with the PR2s on my CBR, I'd like to try them. So, thoughts would be appreciated.

Of course, I also am aware of the fact that the Tourance Next is now out and it claims better life than the EXP. What to do.

And please don't suggest K60s.

Hi, I have only had one set but around 8,500km out of the rear. The front is looking good for double that.

I only got 6500km out of the Tourance EXP for the rear and the front was not far behind that. Found them a good tyre in all conditions.

If you are riding and there is the chance of rain over your 5000 miles, then the PR3s are a great tyre.

Here in NZ, there is always the chance of a heavy downpour, however brief, the PR3s work well. Most people with GS or Tiger Explorers tend to run them and get around the 8000 - 9000 out of a rear tyre.

If you were looking for something more street oriented than the OEM Tourance, we wouldn't suggest a K60. :) no matter how much they are beloved.

I got about 7,400 miles on my PR3 rear, quite hard riding and mostly 2-up with full panniers.
The original Tourance Exp ran about 4,400 miles.
So I think that you can ride your trip and after that you will still have plenty of tread left.
But check the tire pressure and fill a little more than suggested.
About 3.1bar if you have a heavy loaded bike.

I may look at these, the first Tourance EXP rear was dead before 4000 miles, I have thrown another on which should last out the front.

It will be a toss up between Roadsmart 2's and Pilot Road 3's for me, I loved the original Roadsmart on both sportsbikes and my old GS, but it did not last much longer the Tourance EXP's, it seems the PR3's go about 50% further which would suit me well.
