I'm looking at the Super Tenere back end... and thinking there is some room for improvement.

Has anybody installed Hyperlite brake lights? Where? Pictures would be appreciated.

Has anybody defatted the rear end? Lots of plastic back there. Just curious....

Thanks in advance for ideas and suggestions.

I am leaning towards the Whelan unit myself. Does it block the license plate light?

Jim and Moby,

Did you post reports for your mods? I am seriously interested in adding the Whelen brake light unit soon. The helmet locks will be added to the ToDo list.

No, I didn't. Sorry.

I ran the wires from the Hyperlites through the hole behind the red rear reflector and then up past the left side of the fender under the pillion seat. I used Posi-Taps to tie into a handy ground wire under the seat, and the brake wire. IIRC the brake light wire was yellow or some yellow combination.

If you were placing the Whelan unit where the reflector is anyway, the wires should easily follow the same route.

The Whelan unit looks pretty bright and useful. I already had a pair of Hyperlites laying around so they are what I used.

Moby, thanks for the information. I am sure it will help. I plan on using the Whelan light.

Jim, I checked your posts and could not find your report. The Whelan page was not very Tim friendly. Do you have the item numbers for the light, bracket and whatever is needed for this mod?

Thanks.

This is the light: http://www.swps.com/whelen-tir3-leds.html
There may be other places to buy, just use google. It has been a few years since I purchased mine, can't find the receipt.

I did not use a bracket. Remove the rear reflector and mount the light there. I left the rubber gasket off as the unit is totally waterproof anyway. Just hold the light up and you will see where to drill the mounting holes and the hole to run the wires. I set the sequence and left those wires wrapped up behind the fender in a recessed area.

Look at the wires running from the brake light and the turn signals. Follow those up under the pillion seat. I don't remember the color wires off hand but, trace the turn signal leads and eliminate those. The other sleeve will contain the brake wires. I think it is yellow, but check it.

Now all you need to do is make the splices and check your work. I prefer solder but posi taps work ok.
Oh, one other thing, I think I made extensions on the splices as the oem wires were not long enough.

Good Luck

Thanks Jim. Excellent report. I will be purchasing the Whelen Model # RSR03ZCR is RED from the link you provided. Thank you.

I have a flashing LED Tail/Brake light on my KLR and have been missing the safety. Wish insurance companies gave credit to these lights.
