2014 ES Arrived yesterday... finally - I ordered it in March and have been itching to get my hands on it ever since.

I put 400 miles on the 1st day and I am absolutely in love with this machine. There are numerous improvements from my 2012.

Obviously, the big deal is the Electronic Suspension. I wasn't feeling unhappy with the suspension on my 2012, and I can't say I notice any huge improvements from having the ability to electronically adjust settings. I should point out that I do very little off road riding, so perhaps in that environment the feature would be more appreciated. I've played with all the settings from one extreme to another and while I do notice subtle differences, there isn't anything remarkable...

The bike is new, so I haven't tried to push it much. However, I would say there isn't much difference in power based on my initial riding.

Other areas are far more noticeable:
-Cruise control is awesome - well designed, much appreciated, and used all the time! I would pay the extra money just for that.
-Heated grips: I added the OEM heated grips to my other bike, so this isn't new for me. It is nice to have them integrated though.
-Mirrors: I read about this bike a hundred times and never noticed anybody comment on the mirrors. I'm sure somebody did, but I never saw anything... anyway, the new mirror design is a huge improvement. I'm a big guy and was looking at my shoulders in 50% of my old mirrors. These are much wider, have little to no vibration, and just plain work. There is a very nice field of view and you don't have to look at your shoulders / arms at all!
-Transmission is super tight. I've not accidentally hit neutral or missed a shift a single time. I don't know if I got lucky or what, but I've owned tons of machines with a manual gear box, and never had anything shift as nice as this one.
-The updated display is very, very good. It allows you to customize to your own style very quickly, and is just easy to see and use. Lots of information; available quickly...
-Raised handle bars are very comfortable and make it easy to ride long distances - rear end sore before anything else... no improvement to seat - not saying it is bad - just the same.
-A button for 4-way flashers / Hazards has been added. I've wished I had these a couple of times on my other bike - again, didn't see anybody comment on these.

-There are also a few body changes. The only thing that I really noticed as an improvement was the gap on the right side where water used to come through and hit the back of my leg has been closed off with a new or at least larger panel... I'm not sure which. Either way - problem solved.

The adjustable windshield is okay - very stiff. I am going to look at it closer, but the dealer and I spent 5 minutes trying to get it to move. Not as easy as it should be, but typically I would adjust based on season / temperature, so not that often.

Overall - the best bike I've ever owned. $16,9xx with Taxes and all fees included - money well spent!

If you're on the fence, my 2¢ - pull the trigger.

Congratulations on new bike.Did you notice clutch shudder at 3200 rpm on your 2012.If so is it gone on your '14,Jim
I didn't notice a shudder on the other bike that I can recall - I sold it at the end of may expecting my new one to arrive in June.

Either way, this one is very smooth. I would say vibration is a non issue below 5,000 RPM.

Nice review. Regarding the windshield, if you're doing it right, it takes about 20 seconds. There is a 'trick' to it. Make sure you are turning the knobs all the way in the opposite direction until you feel resistance, and then very loosely tighten a smidge of a turn at that point. You then pull the plastic shroud over the metal bracket outward -- most easily accomplished by standing in front of the bike -- and the shield should then move easily. Make sure you have the wedge aligned with the marker arrows on both sides of the shield -- they have to be right on the mark, or the knobs will eventually loosen. The procedure is described in the owner's manual, but if you haven't read it, yes it will be very difficult to do.

Congrats from a fellow former '12 owner, now a '14 owner.

Sorry - too much of a guy I guess, but the manual remains untouched... I'll pull it out and read it tonight. Thanks for the info - I knew we were doing something wrong!

Nice review and congrats on the new bike. I have one question that I have not read anywhere about this bike. Is the clutch lever adjustable? I know our '12 is not and I have small hands so they are always stretched out every time I have to use it. Don't know why Yamaha did not make it adjustable like the brake lever.
Thanks again.

Clutch is adjustable, at least 4 maybe 5 settings. I think this was also the case on my 2012. If your lever is not, I would be questioning if that is an OEM lever - especially if you bought the bike used. Maybe somebody else can verify if they still have a 2012 if their clutch lever has an adjustment wheel.

My '12 was purchased new. Now you got me thinking. Would love to hear from anyone else with a stock clutch lever. Adjustable or not?
Thank you

I also noticed nobody really commented on the design of the mirrors. I wondered about the design of the mirror when I first saw them. But the first time I looked in them going through a curve I thought, "brilliant!" These mirror shapes were well thought out and appreciated by anyone that spends time canyon carving, riding the twisties, etc. Maybe not a big deal on the slab or in town, but the designers apparently spent some time on my roads.

Thank you Yamaha.

Congratulations on your new bike. I picked mine up on Tuesday but only 85 miles on her. Work and weather getting in the way.

Agree wholeheartedly on the mirrors. Was thinking how much I liked them on my ride home on Tuesday.

Transmission too. My ride home featured about 10-15 miles of city driving with traffic lights and I never missed a shift. I usually do on a new bike until I get used to the tranny.

Love the seating position. I'm 6' even with a long torso. Very comfortable ergos for me.

The display is nice but I haven't figured out all the possibilities yet. I read the manual and it will be a while before I understand how to adjust all the suspension options. That's ok; I leave on an 800 mile trip through southern CO on Monday. I'll have time to figure it out. :)

Nice review. The things I really miss on my '13 are:
- Gear indicator (I installed the GIpro from Healtech, which is very good, but difficult to read in direct sunlight)
- The adjustable windscreen
- The cruise control.

As for the clutch lever adjustment and the Hazzards (4-way flashers), these came on my '13.
