I won't try and go for top 5, but my most recent app that I'm pretty enthralled with is called Endomondo. It's a workout tracker that uses the GPS to track your workout. When complete, it automatically uploads the workout to endomondo.com where it can be shared with friends, or looked over in detail for lap times, fastest mile, etc. I've used it so far for running but I'm going to also use it on my bicycle once I start biking again.

On a side note old Android phone devices, once rooted and re-flashed make fantastic replacements for this kind of stuff if you don't want to carry your expensive new phone on a workout. I rooted and re-loaded my wife's Droid Eris and it works great.

Regarding Latitude, do you know how to make it so it reports the person's GPS location on a regular interval? It seems to be totally random as to when it updates, and seems to want you to use the "check in" function to do it, which is cumbersome.

I originally found out about it on my Droid X - some of the Symbol-branded scanners out there in stores are good enough to read it from the phone screen, but sometimes I just hand it to them after i bring it up so they can punch in the numbers themselves ::008::

If you enable ”use wireless carrier” as well as GPS on the phone under location settings then it should update as soon as you check their location. If they are not using the phone at the time then will use cell sites to locate(not as accurate). As soon as they use the phone, it will update with a more accurate GPS location.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned DualSportMaps for android.

The paid app works with the free website, www.dualsportmaps.com, allowing users up upload and download tracks.

I have been using it for a few months and find that replaces my dedicated GPS, though its routing ability is limited.

Thanks for the tip on key ring, its a free app for the iPhone!

I travel a lot for work so most of my favorites are air travel related:

1) USA Today AutoPilot (Flight tracker)
2) Gate Guru
3) Garmin Streetpilot

Most often though, I am using Mail, iPod and Safari on my phone...
