Sadly i do not think petitions will make any difference, even though I have signed 3 of them against this.Mark Drakeford will not back down on this money wasting project of his. They will just rant on about how many lives 20 mph will save.I only do 30 mph through tiny villages.and as for 20 mph for me it's not happening.

I have been booked twice in 23 months for exceeding 20mph in the village that I live in. Once was for 26mph which I took and had to pay £80.00 for a speed awareness course instead of points and the second time it was for 25mph and that cost me 3 points on my licence and £100.00 There was no option that time for a speed awareness course as it was inside of 2 years.

Now, I think 20mph is fine outside schools and similar places but to have such a widespread area subject to 20mph is not quite right. My main gripe is that it is yet another unenforceable law which will not catch the real lawbreakers including those on electric bikes, kids on off-road bikes pulling wheelies and serial speeders. Far better to have this 20mph limit in places where it really would make a difference and benefit people in our community.

As a matter of interest, I have just got back from a tour in France and many villages, towns and cities now have 30kph zones which I think is about 18mph and drivers and riders really do appear to adhere to the limits. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, just that it is having an effect.

Myself and a couple of mates are heading to Wales tomorrow. Not looking forward to the 20mph limits, but will adhere to them, as I’m point free atm and really don’t want any.

I go to Wales at least twice a year and always look forward to it……not so much this time. I know it sounds trivial, but 20mph through every town and village will very quickly become tedious and could end up with some uncomfortable tailgating.

Not all the 30mph have been reduced to 20mph.I personally do not take any notice of speed limits. The 8 wheeler tipper trucks tend to roar past at 50 mph in thirtees near where I live.I would not let it bother you.Just keep your eyes peeled for camera van's and ull be fine.

We’re in Bas Rhin currently and the 30kph limit seems to be universally ignored by French drivers, although the speed humps force you to a crawl unless you want to lose your pillion. 20mph is a stupid limit because internal combustion engined vehicles are not designed to travel so slowly. The gearing is not designed for long periods at this speed, they overheat and cruise control doesn’t operate. Bicycles will overtake you, people will routinely pull out of side roads in front of you because you appear to be (and are) not making adequate progress, and the speed reduction from 60mph to 20mph is far too abrupt. The environmental argument doesn’t hold at such low speeds because wind resistance isn’t a factor and running at 2.5krpm in 3rd is unlikely to use less fuel than 3k rpm in 2nd (and there are bikes that will be in 1st at 20mph - how wonderful is that for fuel consumption and noise?).
Drakeford simply wanted his legacy to be the first to introduce 20 mph throughout, and found justification in a crash test dummy report comparing injuries if you stood in front of a car doing that speed instead of 30mph. No consideration was given to reducing the number of people who stood in front of cars or the practical impact of the speed reduction. The problem is that once introduced, the limit can never be raised. It is irreversible because which politicians will vote for more deaths or injuries? Western society is becoming victim to its own virtue signalling and I can’t see a way out of it other than moving to Hungary!

Is the speed enforcement in these reduced speed areas done primarily through automated traffic surveillance (i.e. photo radar) where you just get a ticket in the mail weeks after the violation, or has there been an increase in visible police enforcement (i.e. uniformed officers pulling people over left and right)?

PS: If the above photo is authentic, street hookers in Wales are definitely a few notches above the ones I saw in the US when I worked Vice.

Not that I live there or have any say or care but maybe next will be pushing your vehicle in certain areas.
Anyhow if you guys would use KM/hr it would be a bigger number, it may make you feel like your going faster.
Like US boys traveling at 60, we are traveling 100. Sounds faster to me hahaha

I wish someone could catch all the car drivers that are constantly texting or fiddling with sat navs etc.
Texting is WAY more dangerous than speed and over here in UK there are SO many people texting whilst driving that it is quite unbelievable.

I regularly ride through London (most of it is 20mph now) and I always stick to the speed limit. Whilst sticking to 20mph I am constantly being overtaken by cyclists!!
It's nuts and OF COURSE..it's all about revenue collection

I wish they'd cast that same net over the guys on bikes who can't seem to stop messing with their devices while they ride. I've ridden and driven by so many guys on bikes who have a cell phone in their hand trying to tap out a text message one handed, or are poking at a phone in a cradle on the handlebars. While tailgating a car at 70 mph on an interstate.

Drivers are more dangerous to those of us on bikes than we are to cars, but damn, there's no shortage of two wheeled idiots out there. I sometimes wonder whether, if there were an equal number of motorcycles on the road as there are cars, we might not outnumber car drivers in the arena of dipshits on wheels.

Then again, they do serve a vital purpose. If it wasn't for them, Youtube would consist mostly of cat videos.
