We decided to do a round trip and planned to overnight on a guest farm called “Uhuru” near Calitzdorp in the Southern Cape. Uhuru is the Swahili word for “Freedom”. Swahili is one of the indigenous languages of Southern Africa.
We were three bikes and four people. The team consist out of myself with the Yamaha XT1200Z Super Tenere; Nelson with a Honda XL1000V Varadero and Riaan and his son Jon-Jon on a Yamaha XT660 R. The meeting place was in Swellendam.
From Swellendam we took the gravel to a little place called Malagas where the only man powered pontoon in South Africa is still in operation.
From Malagas we went through to Heidelberg where we did the necessary shopping.
From Heidelberg we went to the Gysmanshoek Pass. On the way there we did get some mist and rain.
In the Gysmanshoek Pass.
On the way to the Van Wyksdorp turn off.
The church in Van Wyksdorp.
Outside Van Wyksdorp we climbed the Rooiberg Pass.
On top of the plateau.
Uhuru Guest Farm.
Zebra and springbuck are roaming free in the campsites. Unfortunate I did not get a photo of the springbuck.
The next morning we went through the Seweweekspoort on the road to Laingsburg.
Scenery in Seweweekspoort.
Scenery after we left Seweweekspoort.
Here we said our goodbyes to Riaan and Jon-Jon. Time caught us and they still had to go to their home in Hermanus.
Me and Nelson carried on to the Witteberge turn off just before Laingsburg.
The turnoff and some scenery on the road.
When reaching the N1 tar road me and Nelson said goodbye to each other and he took off to his home in Ceres and myself to Worcester.
Thanks for reading .............. It's a pleasure to share my trips with you
