For the first time in my 35 year riding career I am unable to ride. Last night, while catching my son's bullpen session at our baseball field, a protective screen blew over and hit me directly on top of the head resulting in the – shown in the photo. 12 staples later I'm good to go again. Unfortunately I have this hardware in my scalp for seven days and then another week of healing process. Us I am unable to wear a helmet during that time. Being an ATGATT guy, this represents a bit of downtime but I wish I didn't have.

OUCH !!! That's a damn bummer, son. I'm mightily annoyed for you. Here's hoping you heal up quick and get back at 'er. Fins to the bone. R ::008:: ::020::

That's a nasty gash! Did you get knocked out or have any concussion symptoms from it? Get well soon.

I have to ask - what does "while catching my son enable pin session" mean? For the life of me I could not decipher that phrase.

THat was the result of autoedit on my phone making stuff up for me! I was catching my son's bullpen session at the ballpark. The metal frame of the screen hit me flush on the head...I never saw it coming. Luckily, I never lost consciousness, didn't see stars, and almost as soon as it happened and I was on all fours, I realized what had happened. I asked my son to lift the thing off me, then we got up, I held my hand to my head (head injuries bleed A LOT) and we went into the clubhouse to assess the damage. I have a pretty high tolerance for pain but have still been pretty releived that the relative lack of pain I've had. My neck feels like I've taken a multi-day motorcycle trip...a bit sore and stiff. Biggest PITA is that I can't wash my hair in the shower. Son does it for me in the sink, then I have to just dab it dry with a towel. And kicking myself that we are missing riding days while I heal.

Dang that looks painful and yes, I'm sure you bled like crazy.

The hair washing thing would drive me nuts. Being summer, you can shave your head and say it's for sports. Sorta.

Sorry about your injury, but I cannot help but find irony in the need for protecting people from the "protective screen". May we have a little fun at your expense by coming up with warning labels?
"Caution - protective screen in use, head injuries may occur"
"Warning - protect yourself from the protective screen"
"Danger - protective screen area"

time to wear a batting helmet in the cage..no??

sorry to hear of this - trying to do the right thing and then this.

perhaps you are being protected. Maybe, just maybe, something terrible might of happened on your scoot in these days you now can't ride.

that just might be "why"

Ouch, that must have smarted. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Id be asking the baseball field owners about some "medicinal doughnuts". ;D

Final report----I had the staples removed yesterday and I'm good to go again! Meaning I can put a helmet on my head! I'm taking my son on a ride out to Claude, then down thru the Palo Duro Canyon, to Wayside, then back home later this morning. With the large amount of rain we've had over the past 2 weeks, the canyon (and surrounding countryside) should be green for a change!
