Has anyone tried replacing the halogen bulbs in the yamaha (piaa) fog lights with LED replacements? I will probably never use the fog lights that came with the bike, but would like to use them for conspicuity (no clue how to spell that :)) reasons and i would hate 2x55w draw for that...

It can be done and I understand your reasoning behind wanting to do it.

I wouldn't worry unduly about the alternator output however, the load is well within its capabilities.

If you do choose to swap make sure you purchase the shorter versions.

Pardon me if I am misunderstanding something here... But the Yamaha PIAA accessory fog lights (and driving lights) *DO*, in fact, use LED bulbs:

From Yamaha's own description...

"These high-intensity LED fog lamps deliver a very bright, broad pattern with minimal current draw. The white fog lamps have special reflectors designed specifically for fog. To help keep the lights cooler for long life and durability, the casings are die-cast aluminum with cooling fins..."

Just FYI...

Dallara, Phil is referencing the PIAA Yamaha Fog lights which were originall from Europe as Halogen H7 bulbs. The ones listed on Yamaha USA site are the accessory, but still sold as a PIAA 530 LED light. Europe ones were plug n play into the harness, and the USA version is modify the PIAA harness to your liking on the bike.

Hope this helps.

Mine are 100% plug and play with absolutely NO harness mods. They were sourced through Canada by my dealer and are 100% Yamaha.

Here's the package tag. Went through this when I got them with people saying they were third party, modified, PIAA direct with a hack harness, etc. 100% Yamaha.

Like I said, I was only going by what Yamaha's own web site said... What a shame Yamaha offers one lamp in certain markets and a completely different one in others.

Thanks, HoebSTer. It does help.

Like I said when I replied to the OP's original post, I might have been misunderstanding something there. Didn't realize that Dant3's (the OP) lights in Slovenia might be different than what Yamaha sells here.

Oh well... I guess over there you get old-tech H7 bulbs with a plug-n-play harness, whereas here in the Good Ol' USA were get the newer tech LED lamps with a harness that takes a few minutes to modify to fit. Of course, that shouldn't be too tough given Yamaha supplies the necessary plug for the harness right there with the bike.

I've actually got a set of the USA Yamaha accessory PIAA LED lamps right here, complete with brackets, that I've never installed. They were a gift but I've never got around to installing them. With the stock headlamps properly aimed I'm never found the need. One of these days, I guess! ::025::

Weird, Dallara after the last word again.
