PI in August? How expensive are the airline tickets? My buddy just dropped $1800 for his wife to go home and see her family.

Yes tickets have increased since reopening to tourists in Feb. If you shop dates, airlines, are flexible and book well in advance... currently ~$1,000 roundtrip.

Biggest factor on prices is none of the low cost airlines out of China have resumed flights. Their competition kept fares low. Now add increased fuel costs on top of that. Back in 2019 I was flying roundtrip for under $500.

But what you spend on airfare you can save on accomodations and food. My most recent stay was here:

Directly on the water, private fan hut (no a/c) and after taxes/fees was $12 USD per night.

Not really, I tend to make final plans at the last minute or on the fly. Except for plane tickets which I book as far in advance as possible.

So tell me again, are you retired or work for yourself? I forget, I still work but from home and have some flexibility. How many trips do you do a year?

Recently retired this year. But the transition was easy as I've been practicing for retirement for the past 7 years. LOL

Not including Covid years, typically 4-5 trips per year. Usually 3-4 weeks duration. A couple rides in Thailand and Vietnam also. This year starts Europe rides as I just bought a Tenere in Germany.

If anyone is visiting or planning to move to the PH then please feel free to contact me. I live just on the outskirts of the Metro about an hour from NAIA airport. I have lived here for two decades and in Asia for the last 30, so if I can assist I will.

La Union, March'24. Trip #8, love it up there.

Nice place...
Went there on a bike run three years ago. Stayed at La Union Blue Marlin Resort which wouldn't have been my first choice and was a bit run down tbh. The upside was that Sunset Bay Beach Resort next door did some excellent food.

Did you get to visit Baguio or Vigan? Both are well worth it and only 2 and 3 hours away respectively. My wife and I just got back from a trip to Sagada which has beautiful scenery and some great wiggly roads in and out. Well worth the 5 hour ride from La Union.

Edit: Don't go to any of these places at the weekend btw if avoidable.

Did you go spelunking in Sagada? Well worth it for the physically fit and adventurous. Even being a guided tour it is not a sterile or ultra safe experience. I guess that added to the enjoyment for me.

@PhilPhilippines

Phil did you ever buy a Tenere? I was looking for awhile and did find a couple reasonably priced ones. But have since decided I don't need or want a big bike there for the riding I do. Most likely will buy a new or nearly new Honda CB150X and garage it on Luzon. Still keeping my Yamaha on Negros to expand my riding area without need for the long 24 hour ferry ride to jump islands. Will be there next month and again in December.

But I do want another Tenere for Thailand.

Fairly limited experience Phil. Done a couple of thousand kms in north Luzon, and a partial circumnavigation of Mindanao, taking in Camiguin and Bohol. Bessang Pass (Ilocos), Pagudpud-Santa Anna on the north coast, and the Sierra Madre (Cagayan). Some great riding in the Cordillera Central. So much to do!
