is the way the front indicators are running lights? Whose idea is that??? Is there any evidence that it actually improves your visibility to others? Maybe it even makes the indicators LESS visible when turning, due to less contrast?

Actually it wouldn't bother me so much if I didn't have to look at the damn things glowing all the time. The design of the indicator means there's a 1/2" rim of orange light around them all the time, which is really annoying, especially at night.

I don't want to go to the expense of the LED indicators and if they are less bright that would be another reason to avoid them. I haven't looked at a wiring diagram yet but I imagine it should not be too hard to cut the power for the running lights. If that's difficult then I'll be wrapping some black electrical tape around them!

I actually like it.

But, if you don't, there should be 3 wires, power to the sig and running light and then a black ground wire, if there's a blue wire, that might be the running light one. Just cut it and see.

I swapped to LED signals this past weekend and can confirm that the blue wire is for the running lights.

I'm going to ride it a while, as is, but am thinking of installing a set of flush mounts, possibly even going with a better set of LED strips.

On the way home, I was joking with my son that the green signal indicators aren't needed with the orange front signals next to them. (NHTSA rule - I know, I know)

I like the running light, don't like the whole wind screen glowing. I'm thinking some crafty use of some masking tape and a couple quick shots of a nice matte black will fix me right up. Still leave the glow off to the sides, knock out lighting up the cockpit. Maybe this weekend...

I've known plenty of people who put front signals on the back of their bikes, specifically to get running lights there. Which looks kinda peculiar, IMHO, but who am I to talk, as a person who likes to install hyperlites on every bike?

The key there is to put red lenses on those rear markers. Looks good when done right, imho.
