This would have been an easier install than what I have. I never think about them, other than occasionally wiping the lenses off. They start when the bike starts and quit when the bike turns off. Dashcams are definitely NOT good for capturing a fun ride and making Youtube videos and forget about audio. They are for recording the scene in traffic where your risk of an accident is high.
At 720p these are marginal for capturing a license number, but will be fine for capturing what is going on.
