A quick mock up in photoshop gives me an idea of how all this stuff I've ordered will look. Man, I've got too much time on my hands! ;D Haven't decided between SIDI or Gaerne for boots but I'm leaning toward the SIDI on-road. Any recommendations?

Ollie, refresh my memory - what are your plans for a bike? Have you decided what you're going to do yet? I haven't managed to read every post lately, that's what I got Swagger for ;D. You sure have some sweet gear on the way, so you're most of the way there. I'm glad to see you gearing up so well, it's important.

I once heard motorcycling described thus:

"Motorcycling is like sex; when you're not doing it, you're thinking about doing it."

Welcome to the addiction. ;)

My intention is to get the tenere but I'm holding back on a deposit until I get a chance to see one at the IMS, Chicago. It's pretty much the ideal bike for what I see myself doing-mostly touring and dirt roads and will give me room to grow into it. I'm confident in Yamaha's product and the mechanicals of the tenere, but I've got to see if it feels like more bike than I can handle. Of course, it's hard to know just sitting on one, but it should give me a pretty good idea. I make pretty frequent visits to the local BMW dealer to hop on the 1200gs. It feels pretty manageable, but every time I walk up to that bike after not being around it for a few weeks the first thing I think of is "Man, that thing is huge." The same thing happened, though, when I got my first "real" boat. Seemed big and daunting at first but I don't even think twice about it now. If the dealers had the tenere on the show floor this process would be heck of a lot easier. Oh well, I've waited this long to get back into riding, what's a few more months.... You're right about the addiction though and "crack" would probably have been cheaper. ;D

Where are you located, Ollie? We are going to have one at our local dealership in January. Check the distance to 62056 and see if it is closer than Chicago.

It's a little less to where you are than Chicago. Might do that to avoid the crowds. Can you tell what dealer will have it and the dates?

It will be at Niehaus Cycle Sales in Litchfield. www.niehauscycle.com

Let me know if you are coming and I will see you there. It is only 10 miles from me.
Ha...I followed up on your previous message and just got off the phone with a very nice salesperson (didn't get name) who informed me that they'd have one Jan 20-22. Might be heading your way if I can swing it.

I like my Alpinestar Scouts. All black but have decent armor hidden inside and waterproof. Advrider has a decent thread on them.

Wasp Exhaust

Well, I pulled the plug today. I sent the credit card number over to Motorradgarage towards the WASP Exhaust. I am cutting back on a few things just to get this Black Diamond Carbon Fiber, music to my ears, Thunder Trumpet!!! OOOOOOOOHHHH I AM HAVING ONE OF THOSE MOMENTS!!!!
I am going to need a large towel for when this bike actually gets here.

Do consider the Sidi Adventure. It's all been said on here. Tremendous boot.

Congrats Jeff!!! Be prepared for a "foreign payment surcharge" on your credit card, just like it you were there in person making the purchase.

Too late, I got the On Roads a few weeks ago. They were a little loose from top to bottom, but put a gel insert in and fixed it. They're very nice looking boots and top notch finish.

Just how much are we talking on this foreign payment surcharge? I just ordered the windscreen bracket. Payment verification came up as the expected total after adding shipping so i am wondering what surprise to expect when I see the Visa bill.
Is this a few percent?

My On Roads have served me well for over 50K miles and plenty of rain. Completely dry. Best all around boot I've ever owned. The Adventures look nice and I may get a pair when I wear out what I've got, but that won't be anytime soon!

Sppedstar, yeah, it should only be a few points. How bad can it be when i am plunking down 800 bones for an exhaust?? No worries here.

It probably varies from card to card. When you travel to Canada many cards will charge it there as well. Seems like mine was 2-3%.

No problem with 2-3%, just had not thought of that as an issue.
