I had a quick run up to Chicago the last two days to meet with a client about their event in September. Our department admin couldn't get me close to the venue, so she rented me a car, and for some reason rented me a BMW 328i ??? Even being stuck in Chicago traffic, I get why people like these cars so much...

That is all, carry on with our regularly scheduled Yamaha-centric programming...

Last week I test drove a BMW 335i. Very impressed. The car is quick! Zero to 60 in 5.4 seconds. Unfortunately I also test drove a 2014 Porsche Cayman. I'm ready to sell my soul for that car.

I had a 99 Porsche Boxster. I LOVED that car. Fun to drive. I was just too darn tall for it.

Don't go and drive a Nissan GTR, you will never come off that cloud. Um, ok that is what i have heard with 0-60 around 2.9-3.0 secs. That sounds good.

Back in '08 I had a Merc-Benz E500 I had decided to replace, and I had decided on either another Benz - an AMG E63 - or a BMW M5. Drove 'em both, and needless to say both were nice. But then a friend of mine who works in the engineering department at General Motors told me to wait, or just take a chance and get a 2009 Cadillac CTS-V sedan.

I did... That is I took a chance and ordered a CTS-V up. Ordered got delayed a bit. First a wheel supplier issue that delayed 'em, then mine got delayed because I wanted the Recaro seats. Finally got it in April of 2009. Claimed 556 HP, 551 ft/lbs TQ, and 0-60 in under 4.0 seconds. I was gonna' get the 6-speed 'cuz it was supposed to be capable of 196 MPH, but he told me no, get the auto. Yeah, it was electronically limited to 176, but I knew I'd never really drive much up there...

Anyway, it's been the best car I've ever owned, and IMHO drives, rides, handles, stops, etc. way better than either the '09 AMG E63 or '09 BMW M5 I drove. And the Caddy definitely outpowers either of the two Germans. Two friends have sold their Benz's to get CTS-V's after driving mine. And my CTS-V has been as reliable as my Super Tenere. Rock solid. One little problem with the OnStar antenna and one of the headlamp housings leaking, both issues very early on and fixed under warranty, and that's it. And I swear it's faster today than when it was new. Rides wonderfully, is as quiet as you'd expect a Cadillac to be, corners and stops like a race car.

If you're ever looking at buying a BMW or a Benz I heartily recommend you give a new Cadillac a try, too. It might surprise you.

Just FYI...

The devil's gonna be running a brisk business if souls can be swapped for Caymans.... I'd be in line with you! :D

Fine, fine, you leave me no choice but to join in here... :)

Once got a Cadillac CTS rental - 3.6 litre model with direct injection - let me tell you, I was blown away by that car. It had been ages since I'd even bothered setting foot inside a GM product. The ones my folks had were garbage. (Grand Am and Grand Prix, though I should say, there were both fine coupes to have access to in high school...LOL)

Fast forward a few years...

Riding the FJR home one night two days before Christmas, it occurred to me in the rain that not only were none of the drivers around me paying any attention, but that that overpass I just rode over was frosted...might be time for a second car.

4 days later, the BMW Z4 came home - the perfect second car for commuting...LOL

A month ago, I suggested I might sell the BMW to buy a Porsche, and my wife suggested that we keep the BMW (she loves it) and maybe I could swap motorcycles as often as I liked...LOL

Out goes the FJR, in comes the Tenere.

Now the question is...will we add another car to the garage and punt the Jetta to the driveway?

Porsches are nice, don't get me wrong, but I'm a car guy, so many different things catch my eye...

Corvette (C5 models)
BOSS Mustang (new ones)
Cayman S
BMW 850i
...and who knows what else.

I'd kill to have a Porsche Speedster, but unless I have one modified, I simply don't fit - the car is too short in the legs for me. There is a shop in California, though, that I recently came across, who adjusts these cars for the longer of inseam AND swaps in a Subaru flat four and 5 speed transmission to increase power and reliability. Me, I just always like the growl of a flat 4/6 engine. :)

Who knows what life will bring next. Might see us selling everything, or if I'm really fortunate, adding another ride to the stable.

Then again, I've had it in my head that I want to buy some land - 10 acres or so, and set up a series of trails so I can go riding on my own land whenever I choose. It would be nice to have a place to go camping and hold gatherings for friends on the weekends. Washington Is a beautiful state and there is lots of land around... we shall see...

You're opinion hold value... even if you're dead wrong about the BOSS Mustangs... ;) My problem with the Mustangs is they are large - HUGE cars now - they just visually take up a metric crap ton of space...and the last GT I drove (just prior to the 5.0 motors), was loud. Uncomfortably loud driving around town. Better on the highway, but holy hell, spray some expanding foam already, Ford!
