Oil leak from water pump hose?

Got home today, noticed my bike was leaking oil. Took the skid plate off and it isn't very clear to me where the oil is leaking from.
There is a significant amount of on the bottom of the engine the furthest point forward that has oil is possibly the drain hose coming out of the water pump.
Can that even leak oil? There is no sign of coolant leaking, or a mix of coolant and oil.
My plan is to clean the engine off and see if I can more clearly track the leak down.
Just wondering if anyone has had a similar issue

2012 with 53k miles. Maintenance done IAW manual. No major accidents or mechanical failures. Next oil change due in 200 miles.

Clean the mess, leave the skid plate off, and ride it for a few miles. Then blow some baby powder on it and see where it sticks.

The aft left corner of your airbox has a little oil collection tube. See if it's filled & overflowing.

Is that the lug the factory skid plate bolts too? If you take a hard hit to the skid plate that lug will break off or crack.

The duplex seal for the water pump has a lot going on. The waterpump is driven by the motor, there's a seal on the motor side to keep the oil in. The impeller shaft being driven by the motor passes through a very small void then through a seal to keep the water where it belongs inside the waterpump. If either seal leaks you won't get cross contamination because of the two seals. That small void between the two seals is where the weep hole tube attaches and where either coolant or oil will weep into your skid pan. It's a trick to rebuild, lots of parts, seals, bushings, gaskets, but it is rebuild-able.

Pretty sure I tracked the leak down. Oil element cover. I am assuming all I need is a new gasket and to replace it. Is there any other parts I need for this job?
Seems pretty straight forward.

Kinda surprising how quick this leak sprang up and how much it leaks. I ride the bike every day, no leak on the way to work, way home enough of a leak to drip in my garage. Just glad it stayed off my rear tire for the ride home.

Well that wasn't the leak. Good thing I already ordered the wrong part. It is in fact leaking from the water pump.
It appears from the part diagrams that if I order an entire "water pump assembly" it will solve this leak. Can any one confirm this.
Or do I need to order another o-ring or gasket to solve the oil leak?

That's actually pretty economical. If it all comes pre-assembled that would be a great way to go. I aught to order one just to have, I already had one done just inside warranty. I don't recall the pump on my Royal Star being so self contained, I rebuilt it part by part.

The water pump assembly wouldn't be shipped for over a month. Ordered the parts to rebuild, hopefully be here within a week. The struggle of living in Hawaii.

Well here is the offending oil seal. There was a pretty significant amount of crud and corrosion between the mechanical seal and oil seal. Impeller shaft was pretty pitted up as well.
All suspect parts have been replaced and there are no leaks.

Yeah I wish I took more pictures. Pretty straight forward. My only advice would be use a little bit of heat to get the mechanical seal out. A few short bursts with a blow torch really softened up that plastic seal material making it much easier to get out.

Curious as to why so much corrosion? You said you do regular maintenance, what brand of coolant do you use?

I use engine ice. But I still have no idea why so much corrosion. That area isn't exposed to coolant. The pitted section of the impeller shaft is between the mechanical seal and oil seal.
There was obviously oil in that space from the leak, but I would hope that didn't cause corrosion.
I was living in Florida and worked very close to the beach, now living in Hawaii and there is a crap ton of salt mist in the air often. But that space is very protected, and the bike is garage kept and rinsed down often.
I have no idea why the was so much corrosion in there.

Yeah those are the parts I ordered. I also changed out the impeller itself, part #2, and would recommend doing the same. There was a good bit of corrosion on the shaft that would likely ruin any new seals you put in.

Also a lesson learned. When removing part #8, the seal mechanism, I used a little bit of heat on the water pump case. That thing is really in tight and some heat helped soften the seals to allow it to be removed.

Tabasco (or any other human S10 encyclopedia ;) ), please see attached pictures. Am I in the same boat as the op (Standby diver)?

I was pulling tires off today after a ride and found windswept crud on the skid plate as well as some saturation around the water pipe.

Thanks in advance for any expertise and guidance :)
